Is there a store in Monroe that carries tofu?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I haven't thought about tofu in a long time. It used to be in all the grocery stores, I'll keep my eye out for it.

Meijer carries both 'fresh' (perishable) tofu and shelf stable. It's in the organic food area of the produce department.

I make a tasty baked tofu. Yum!

Thanks for the tip.   I have looked at most of the other stores with no luck.

I usually avoid that whole Meijer area due the traffic in on Telegraph, but it looks like I may to make the trip.

Thanks again!

I'd second that but I had someone served me some and didn't tell me what it was.  It's nasty, tasteless crap.

Like eating cheap American cheese, like the kind McDees puts on the cheeseburgers..... ;D

It's the only thing you can fry and it don't do anything except lay there in the pan.

It usually is bland because most people don't know how to prepare it. By itself tofu has next to no taste at all. If you take the time to drain it properly, then slice it and put it into a good marinade (we use soy, garlic, dash of Worcestershire, salt & pepper), you can bake, broil, or pan fry it and it's delicious. You can also deep fry it, but I've never done that myself. I very much enjoy good tofu prepared this way in a stir fry by itself or along with meat.

Great, now I'm starving! No tofu tonight, tho... butter beans and cornbread!

Excelsior, how do you plan to use it?

I'm betting there's no space in my garden  for edamame, whatever that may be. Does you grow carrots an d stuff like that?

I does! And 'maters and beans and peas and peppers on and on.... Edamame is soybeans! You eat them like shelled peas. Great source of protein and very tasty boiled and with a little bit of sea salt sprinkled on. My kids love 'em!

I prefer my edamame after it's through the chicken ,pig, etc. To each his or her  own. My farmer neighbor grows edamame every other year, so if I get a hankerin', I guess I can go across the road and fill up!

As a Soy Grower - I hope many uses are continued for them...   Just can't imagine Tofu catching on as a great staple.

I prefer my soybeans - "mature" and dry roasted  (lightly salted) for a great snack.

There's a few places in the Irish Hills that make em great and sell in local stores.

I was planning to marinate in soy and ginger then bake, but then I saw this:

That does look yummy! I'm surprised the recipe calls for firm tofu, tho. I've only made tofu smoothies a couple of times (just not a fan of smoothies in general), and the recipes I used then called for silken.

I was a vegetarian for a couple of years, so I developed a taste for tofu and edamame, both excellent sources of non-animal protein. When I lived in Atlanta, we used to frequent a Chinese restaurant where they had a delicious tofu hot pot that I absolutely loved. I still don't know how they prepared the tofu--the texture was perfect. I asked once and they said they fried it. My pan frying didn't replicate it, even in cast iron, so maybe it was deep fried. Baked tofu comes satisfyingly close, and it's probably a lot healthier!
