I love salsa made with fresh chopped tomatoes, onion and plenty of cilantro, NOT that liquid stuff that most Mexican places serve around here.  I know it's not a sit down and be served place, but I love the type of fresh food served at Chipotle.  They have three different salsas, all fresh and delicious.

I've had some pretty decent meals at Vaquero, including the carne asada.  Their menu is super-extensive, so I imagine most people can find things they like (and maybe even some they don't). I didn't realize they had so many locations.  People in Columbus must like the place for them to have nine locations there.

If you do make it to Mexican Town, Xochimilco is a good place to start.
Easier getting around with the construction done.   ;)

Xochimilco's is the first place I ever went to in Mexican Town and it's still a favorite. I usually get the same combo platter every time...and we always stop by Evie's while we're there and pick up a bunch of tamales to bring home.

We went last weekend and were somewhat disappointed. Everything was "fair"
Fair service, fair food quality, nothing more nothing less.

We do like  El Vaquero on the docks in Toledo. Better food , better ambiance and they have salsa dancing on Sat. and  Salsa lessons in the restaurant beforehand.Great margarita's

Xochimilco is the best IMO....the tortilla chips are always hot and the salsa is perfect...not chunky.

Plus they have great girly frozen strawberry drinks.

Not sure if those are available locally.

I'm a big fan of pretty much every restaurant in Mexican town. Truthfully I can make it there in about the same amount of time it would take me to get to Carls Hideaway.

My first job in the metro area was at the corner of Porter Street and Trumble so I was close to the old stadium for easy access to an afternoon game when I could squeeze it in.......and, right on top of Mexican Village for great lunches everyday.

I think I gained 20 pounds that year...lol.

Ask for pico de gallo instead of salsa.  That better describes what you like.  I also prefer this type of condiment but it isn't salsa.

For people who enjoy real Mexican cuisine, Vaquero's is good eats, no question about it. 'Bout time for us to visit again, too.
