Is MT done?
« on: April 22, 2012, 09:47:58 AM »

Monroe publishing is rolling out a new web page on Tuesday. In the article they mention various new options available to users however there is no mention of Monroe Talks. Obviously the site has been in decline for some time now we have been losing interest from long time posters as well as not gaining many new ones. Is this the end?

We must be on the same wavelength Billy...   I just started a "similar" thread and then saw this when it posted.  I'll lock the other one and refer posters here ;) ;) ;)

What is your opinion though BRD? They don't mention MT but mention other social media sites like FB and Twitter do you think they are going to pull the plug on us?

I doubt they'd pull the plug on MT without at least giving members a heads up. At least I hope they wouldn't do that. There are still people participating and even more who read the forum.

I don't think so Billy...  I think we still contribute a lot to their overall goal :) :) :)

I also hope they wouldn't. This is where I come to see what's going on around town (the real news). I sure miss some of my old MT friends though. So many have come and gone.

What are we, chopped liver? lol

There are a few that I miss, certainly, but I don't miss all the troublemakers and drama queens of old (yes, I know. That was then, this is now.). There's still plenty of that left!!  8*

I like the group we currently have. Most are very sharp and willing to at least try to be civil most of the time. Everyone has bad days or succumbs to taking bait (I'm just as guilty), but overall I think that the forum has reached an even keel. It's mostly a pleasant place to hang out and chat. I hope it sticks around.

Sorry Monique, I knew I would come across that way but it wasn't my intent. Obviously not everyone will get along all the time. I'm sure there are those that don't care for my opinions. But there are many posters over the years that I truly miss and just wish would check in from time to time. I'm not saying it's terrible here these days but it is really slow. It can be hours between posts sometimes even days. I like a little more action and would love to see a community of old, new and current talkers. I appreciate everyone that has contributed and continues to do so. It is informative and entertaining.

All the more drama for the viewers... :o

I miss a lot of the old posters to...Had some good debates of old, a lot more finger pointing and personal stuff being thrown in the mix lately.  I take some of it as good natured ribbing, but some of it does cross the line, especially in politics!...Makes for good reading to some... 8*

This site pulls quite a few hits, I don't think there is any real threat they would cut it...

My personal opinion is that the board became too much, especially in the political forum for some people. Of course politics need and should be discussed but it was spilling into every other area of the board. Personal attacks increased and even though it may not have been on a specific poster people generally don't want to hang out with a bully. When I joined in 07 it seemed to be more loose, heck people would  be up sometimes till 2 or 3 in the morning chatting it up having a good time. I know today there are so many forms of social media available but MT will always be where it all started for me. I guess it's just the evolution of MT.

I think you're right Billy...    Definitely where it started for me too...  but there are so many other forms of "social media" today as you say...  maybe MT's use is just "evolving" too...

I was talking with our youngest daughter today about how she got started on Myspace but how it's about done for today.  She has "evolved" to Facebook though!

MT gives me all the social interaction I need "for now" 8* 8* 8*

I posted several months ago that I thought the posting activity was on the decline, new folks showing up not occurring, and many just not posting anymore.

I always enjoyed this site....well, except for the time period it was dominated by all the Johnny Come Lately's during the Nevaeh incident.  In fact, it was that period that got me booted from here for a bit.

I don't come around often anymore, but that is tied mostly to just not having the time that I once had to spend browsing the internet.

There is still value to this site....I almost ALWAYS tune in during bad weather because we have quite a representation around the county where this place becomes more effective than the NWS.

I enjoy local, state, and federal politics and will look in every once in a while to catch opinions of the far right and left....but I stopped participating in those threads because I just wasn't up to coming here and arguing.  I get WAY too much of that at work, and don't need the frustration during my mind rest times.  A person can not be accepted here as a Centrist.

I hope the forum survives...pretty certain it will.

I think we'll see some changes when or shortly after they get the paper site converted.  I'm sure Rob has been tied up with that behind the scenes for a long, long time!
