I posted several months ago that I thought the posting activity was on the decline, new folks showing up not occurring, and many just not posting anymore.

I always enjoyed this site....well, except for the time period it was dominated by all the Johnny Come Lately's during the Nevaeh incident.  In fact, it was that period that got me booted from here for a bit.

I don't come around often anymore, but that is tied mostly to just not having the time that I once had to spend browsing the internet.

There is still value to this site....I almost ALWAYS tune in during bad weather because we have quite a representation around the county where this place becomes more effective than the NWS.

I enjoy local, state, and federal politics and will look in every once in a while to catch opinions of the far right and left....but I stopped participating in those threads because I just wasn't up to coming here and arguing.  I get WAY too much of that at work, and don't need the frustration during my mind rest times.  A person can not be accepted here as a Centrist.

I hope the forum survives...pretty certain it will.

I'm glad to see some MIA posters come back and visit now and then. Saw one "old" name yesterday. She didn't post, but it's always good to know people are still out there and doing ok. Good to hear from Fuzz today and I always enjoy seeing Slugger and Farmer Ted pop in now and then.    We've also had a few former members come back and participate and bring their own special brand of posts back with them (a certain Hobbit comes to mind  ). As I said, even though it's kind of slow sometimes, I think this is a pleasant and stable environment most of the time. MT has matured and mellowed, and I like it.

As someone who registered months ago but just posted in the last few days, I can see problems with moderation .

Some people seem to be allowed to use vile language and outright insults and moderators let them go for some reason.

Agree.   And that keeps some from posting (or even reading) in topics that might be of interest to them.

Yes. The fact that SOME posters are allowed to go off on tangents and use obscene language against other posters is a discredit to this forum, in general.

It is even more disturbing that the "moderators" allow it. As mentioned, I don't want some crazy person jumping me while screaming vulgar words that moderators here apparently allow and condone.

No! We're not done yet! It's a funky place and we sort of like it, things could be better, but for the most part it's not awful.

I post on several forums. There are rules. And on THIS forum it seems the staff and moderators don't have any problems allowing CERTAIN posters to use obscene language to denigrate others.

This in not a matter of "free speech". The behavior allowed on THIS forum is not "free speech". The behavior by some is beyond "free speech" and borders on libel.

I suspect the revenue generated by MT is minimal and the resources dedicated to moderation reflect this.  I doubt that anything will change.   

My recommendation would be acknowledge the status of the MT environment and move forward.
