39 day trip to mars.
« on: April 30, 2012, 05:18:55 PM »

A new plasma rocket is in the works, and thanks to it's exponential acceleration humans could reach mars in as little as 39 day. This certainly adds a twist to the whole "should we go to mars?" debate.

I have conflicting views of a Mars mission...On one hand it would be a monumental achievement, something space exploration has strived for since the beginning...On the other hand the cost, the danger(as of now) and a lack of a true spacecraft, make it not much more than a pipe dream right now.

(Please no Gingrich jokes about my next statement!)

The first thing NASA should concentrate on would be a "true" spacecraft, one meant to "stay" in space for long extended periods of time.  The second thing would be (here it comes) a Moon base to launch missions from.  This base would have to have the processing ability to produce water, oxygen and fuel from Moon rocks...I know it sounds crazy but the process has been proven on a small scale.

But, in all seriousness, we have a long way to go before anything like this could become a reality...We still can't get over our petty terrestrial issues of religion and politics... :-\

I actually agree with that strategy. It'd be great just to get a settlement of humans that wasn't on earth. It'll also be nice to see if we can sustain some sort of artificial gravity.

Billions spent to test the big bang theory, why not billions more to investigate evolution.

Forget the billion starving people on Earth.

Mars needs women!

Mars Colony News
Mars needs women! Martian President Newt Gingrich has launched an initiative to boost the number of women at the Capitol Colony. "The three women to one man ratio is just not enough. A man needs hope for change" Newt said today at the Mars Bar.

I think in order to go farther, we need to go smaller. Beam me up Scotty.
