Monroe County History: The MEN's Civil War Blog
« on: May 04, 2012, 09:40:02 AM »

I just want to point out the blogsite the MEN has put up to commemorate the area's rich history involving the Civil War:

http://blogsmonroe.com/150civilwar/?p=1

I'm not sure "who or how" the error happened on this one but I'm pretty sure the 150th anniversary of any event is the sesquicentennial and not the bicentennial 8* 8* 8*

Overall it looks like a great contribution to remembering the past  8) 8) 8)

I was asked to put one out in 2010 by a local historian.
I went to the newspaper about it after it was done but nothing ever was published or mentioned about it.
Anyway, if anyone is intersted, here is the link. http://mcmcws.wordpress.com/

We drove down Front street yesterday past Soldier's and Sailor's Park and I see there is some construction going on...  3 footings it looks like...  I'm guessing this is something for the monument?

Yes it it. The company that is supplying the granite had some "problems" and as I was told, its going to be close to have it ready for the dedication.

Seems like it was right where Navarre Street intersects or ends at the park...

should make it very prominent:
