Well Sammy many of their parents bought into the "pie in the sky" housing boom. Buried themselves in debt and the bottom fell out. Debt was good
everything is rosy, and then it wasn't. I expect the parents of today are wiser.

I think that universities need to stop building gleaming new palaces on their campuses. Anyone who has ever visited U of M, MSU or even Saginaw VSU knows what I'm talking about. Stop assessing the value of a university president by the size of his/her budget. Use the money saved to cut interest rates.I would also be in favor of raising taxes on the rich and cutting some from the health bill by limiting what doctors and hospitals can charge for services. everybody is right.

Today's college students are the offspring of those who bought into the idea that an interest-only mortgage was a good deal. "They" haven't learned much in  a generation.

Mike,
I'm no expert on exactly how univ. spend their money, but the yearly rate increases we're seeing demand examination. Course maybe it's just me. My career has been spent in the private sector. If we raised prices without justification there were negative consequences to our business. If colleges raise prices without justification, too bad, so sad for their students.

Mike Ingels:
I have a bone to pick with your post #16 that I didn't address in my last post.
It is where you speak of raising taxes on the rich and limiting what Doctors and Hospitals can charge. Are you saying it is justified to squeeze others to mitigate
the unwarranted excess of higher education?

Damn straight... rules are rules and if you want to make real money you have to have one of those pieces of paper from a place that squnders money as effortlessly as you and I breathe.

Gee, I'm all for reducing or eliminating the MEA and the union.  Unionized teachers are like the post office, bleeding their employers dry....

The SL interest rate is moot anyway.  You graduate and can't find a job (other than waiting tables) anyway.  You can thank Obama and his failed policy (if there ever was one) for that.

I don't believe that you couldn't be more wrong, but I'm sure you'll find a way. The facts say just the opposite.

You are right John, I got side tracked by you and your friend talking about a different subject matter altogether.

My apologies.

I get real tired of reading about the educators plight.  Guess what, they elected to enter that field, no one forced them.  What needs to occur is a non-union scenario where they are actually paid and get raises based on performance (like the real world as it concerns most workers) instead of what they have now, which, IMO is a gravy train of paid benefits and wages based on years of service per a union mandated contract.

I spend most times on this site just reading and not posting lately.....  a couple posters dominate this site with constant cut-n-pasta crap, like zoombies at a water trough.

If I want to look at Rachel Maddow's puss, I can do it myself.

I have a suggestion for you....

Take a tape measure and run it out to 100".  Lock it and lay it on a table.  Put your finger on the number that corresponds to your age and look up toward 100.  Be apprised that unless you defy the law of averages, you won't make it.  Then, look back toward the other end and at all the time you pi**ed away.

You been waiting and pi**ing away too much time. ;D ;D ;D

or.....  Get a life while you have one.....

Once again it is obvious you know nothing about what you speak. I enjoy my life, in fact, it has gotten considerably better over the last 2 or 3 years, and things are looking to be even better next year.

Strike three big boy, you're outta there.
