Indian Artifacts

For anyone interested... You can check the slopes of Sterling Island at Hellenberg Park for Indian Artifacts. It's on E. Front St.

I've found 3 arrowheads near the walking bridge. Across the river, near the battlefield center, I've found an Indian hammer, a lead bullet, and another broken arrowhead. Also, at Hellenberg Park, I found an interesting sun coin, carved by an Indian.

I found a small Indian axe/celt along Stoney Creek a few years back. Was in beautiful shape. I believe the Indians around here were Potawatomi.

Anyone else here ever go looking or find anything?

I had quite a collection as a kid....mostly the same sort of artifacts as you, Xerxese....arrow heads in various stages of finishing, and a few celt heads.

I grew up near a spot that had 3 converging creeks with several "high spots" at the area where they ran together.  Used to hit that high spot every Spring when the farmer would till the area and find a few good pieces.

I found several good spots like that.....almost had to think like the Indians,,,,,,making their tools where they could overlook valleys, streams, and other geographic features that made sense where good hunting would be.

Thanks for bringing back those memories....damn near forgot them!

By far the biggest "collection" of native American artifacts along this line I've ever seen was in Wayne Clawson's shop at Clawson Electric.  I could stand there for hours looking at all of it.  Just what he had on display covered several 4'x8' sheets of pegboard.  And I'm sure he had more...
