Increased spending on the military (wars in Iraq and Afghanistan) and cutting taxes for the last 10 years got us to where we are today.

Partially, yes, you are correct.  The tax cut was insignificant, though, compared with the 1.5 trillion dollar annual deficit we are faced with now.  But more government spending is NOT the answer, and raising taxes alone is NOT the answer.  That was my point.  The federal government MUST slash spending, if we are going to get the deficit under control, and start paying down the national debt.

But that will never happen.

When I was a little boy, my mother spoke of a prophecy, of a time when all the world would be covered in darkness and the fate of all of mankind would be decided. One night I finally got the courage to ask my mother why God had changed, why He was so angry with His children. “I don’t know,” she said as she tucked the covers around me. “I guess He just got tired of all the bullshlt.”

The tax cut was insignificant?

It amounted to almost $2 trillion, and unless it is allowed to expire, will continue to cost us into the future.

Prior to Bush, that is exactly what we were doing.

The big question now is what to cut. Republicans want to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all the other social programs that are keeping us (just barely) above 3rd world countries. They also don't want to cut oil subsidies, or the Military budget, or to increase any taxes what-so-ever.

We need to let the tax cuts expire, cut spending to the military, and invest money into creating jobs.

Whilst some of you obviously prefer to let others do your thinking for you, did anyone commenting here think for a moment that with half of your so-called "countrymen" not paying any Federal taxes that perhaps that corporate entity is desperately seeking ways to shake down the OTHER 50% for even more of what they're already stealing from you?  My goodness, quote all the Keynsian economists and talking heads from TeeVee/Cable all you want, just know that the federales know who has "money" in what accounts, and how much of it, and where it is, and are eye-balling it like a starving man looking at a Porterhouse with a baked potato on the side.  Saverin can very well afford to hide his (diminishing?) millions, the rest of you, probably not...

I know I'm having a hard time trying to hide my millions; maybe I need a new accountant?!

The government takes money from those that they know can't and won't do anything about it, the middle class.  Our vote won't make much difference.  They know we won't riot or protest so they keep taking.  The IRS is busting my chops for a measly couple of hundred bucks because I don't pay qtrly estimated taxes.  I keep my money and pay it all in April.  Now they want a penalty all the while paying out over $2 billion in refunds to illegals claiming dependents that don't even live in this country.
