Well there you have it folks.  FF and m.m have shown conclusively that the solar option is so affordable we're ALL fools for not adopting it individually at this very moment.  Regardless of the benefit to the environment, it's so fiscally sound that you can't NOT like it!  Shhh, don't let Warren Buffet in on this little insider tidbit, huh?!  ;) ;)

And I would also, but I've learned along the way to learn from others.  Just like they've shown, I have much to learn.  :(  And they have such great access to teach me along the way.

So I'll plod along and await the continuous, regular updates from them on their progress in building and adopting their very own personal systems.  Based on the above info I'm guessing they're already well on their way to getting the needed permits, coordinating with DTE, ordering these affordable systems so they can break ground post haste.  The environment cannot wait!  :D

Meanwhile, I suggest getting a used exercise bicycle and hook a generator up to it to power your computer, a la Gilligan on Gilligan's Island.   :o

I get plenty of exercise thank you.

We've paid to decommission Fermi and to dispose of the waste. The lease should not be renewed and DTE and the government should be held to contract! Clean it up and restore it to greenfield so Monroe can build a world center of clean energy and education!

No. Expand the Fermi plant with Fermi 3, bringing plenty of high-paying jobs, and then add in some several hundred windmill turbines along the lake. Then close the coal plant.

Nope, nope, m.m has already said no wind turbines are allowed, unless they're on farms. Not really sure what that means, since most Turbines I've heard about are on wind farms.

Your quote;"No industrial turbines, but I'd like to see a few farm windmills". Note the quote function, twit!

I recall you mentioned your service on nuclear subs...so I take it you work for Fermi

FrenchFry, you 'ol sly dawg you!...Nuttin' sneaks by ya huh?  You're right on both accounts!  Hopefully the cartoons are posted for the enjoyment of all, not to whitewash me with a stroke of a paint brush!

Because I looked into alt energy on a home scale about 15 or so years ago.  Haven't kept up on the technology since then.  Since I can't very well have the neighbors cut down or trim their trees solar wasn't feasible.  At that time wind wasn't all that attractive either based on the avg. recorded prevailing wind speeds.

Bottom line, at that time, the pay-off far exceeded the time I project to live at this location.  Solar and wind doesn't increase the resale value  of the home great enough except to a techno-geek.

Without installing (and increasing the costs) to provide for storage (deep cell batteries and exotic transfer switches) means even less available to sell back on the grid.

Well then m.m go about making them changes and get started on your very own alt energy project.  Ya'll got the line on the grants, tax abatements, etc. go do it!  Step up to the plate.

Ty for the vote of confidence. I have to admit sometimes I am overwhelmed with daily life and caring for my children's needs, but I am inspired to make a big difference. I am not just all talk, I really do care about health and the environment, and I try to live up to my own standards.
