A few of them are around, but you have to drive a bit. Troy has McCormick & Schmick's, Morton's, Capital Grille and Ruth's Chris. Biaggi's, Abuelo, J Alexander's and Bravo are in Toledo.
I like J Alexander's a lot and Biaggi's is pretty OK in my book. Ruth's Chris is insanely overpriced. I've never had a bad meal at any Morton's, but it's pretty pricey too.
I cant see Monroe ever getting any of these restaurants except for Bob Evans.
Waffle House as the lowest rated family restaurant? Bad tippers at Shoney's? I sure didn't have to read an article to know that!
We used to enjoy stopping at Shoney's on our trips south...
usually decent food and decent service...
I remember one interesting "incident" in a Shoney's in Tennessee...
The two oldest kids at least had on "Go Blue" attire of some kind... and they had just announce what in Tennessee they perceived as the biggest "snub" in sports history...
Woodson over Manning for the Heisman...
our coffee was cold along with the service and a lot of cold stares as we were walking through the restaurant... in hindsight we were probably lucky to get out of there with all of our tires having air in them!!!
And yes, that is probably the smallest tip I ever left in a Shoney's... maybe even in any restaurant in the last 20 years...
We don't hit Waffle House very often, but have occasionally... usually if it's maybe next door to the motel.
One night we had been driving all night (don't do those trips now) and stopped about 5 am just north of Atlanta... we were just about the only ones in the place except for a waitress and a cook... and they were arguing... and it was getting worse... and louder. We really thought there was going to be a physical assault... we hurried and ate and left... didn't stop at a Waffle House again for several years!!!
