Tear Down Fermi!
« on: June 11, 2012, 07:02:58 PM »

Talk about jobs Fermi 3 would generate, but think about all the work decommissioning the dump would create! It would be a boon to Monroe's economy!!

A crew of 20 people at 15 bucks an hour for a year or so to "clean up the mess". A unionized construction crew of over 1000 for three years, plus the hundred plus salaried/well-paid hourly jobs for the new plant.

No comparison.

It's going to take a brigade and heavy equipment and all kinds of transport and God knows what else to tear that sucker down and clean it up and restore it to greenfield. There will be so many jobs the hotels will be full of workers and the businesses will flourish.

And then they'll all go away! Better long-term jobs than short-term jobs.

No, I'm waiting for the new one, which has an absurdly nerdy data visualization engine built up behind it. it's going to be nerdtastic.

Yeah it would create jobs but.... more than likely, the job would be bidded on and given to the lowest contractor. (maybe a local one "might" get in) which would probrobly be the ONLY local worker and his crew hired.

Lets see...  what you are saying is that all the local contractors are overpriced so they aren't competitive.  I can understand that fully.
