5th anniversary of Monroe Talks is June 18th...
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:44:34 AM »

My how time flies...

We had our 'Eyes and Ears' for a few months before MT got going...

and it was in beta mode with some early testing for a few months before it went active on June 18th, 2007 ;) ;) ;)

I would like to personally thank Dan Shaw for his "vision" and all the effort he took to help create MT.

Doesn't matter if you've been here the entire 5 years or just the last 5 minutes, please take a minute to share your thoughts ;) ;) ;)

I've been here only during the past year, but I truly am grateful for the site.   Made some nice friends, learned a lot of Monroe County history (and more to come), and appreciate the fast breaking-news that comes when we have a local incident.   Thanks to all who make it possible!

My brother was on this site before I was and made some good friends.  He still uses my account sometimes to check in on things, but that's not very often.  It's not a bad little site, but far from the glory days my little brother used to talk about.

So I've heard, Forsythia.   Seems they once had a rollicking jolly old time here.   I think all the newfangled social media sites like Facebook have put a crimp in message boards, but I still find them much more to my style.

I enjoy the dialogue, and learning others knowledge and views and even expertise on some subjects.

I discovered it a few years ago and have evolved as times goes on, meeting some in the sports section as we competed in Fantasy Football for MTers.

Politics is just that - a place for sometimes heated discussions on personal views of what or how things should be done.

Ask - is a great area to ask questions and find out that you have other resources beyond the google or internet searches - real people helping others!!!

History - glad to see it's finally up and running - now to get more stuff ready (hard to do when it's nice out)

Advice:  Don't ever feel intimidated because you are new and it seems like everyone knows everyone.
Jump in and you'll fit in.
Make a mistake - it's okay we all do it - Just like the real world - you won't make everyone happy all the time, and you won't find everyone your friend - but they will offer you guidance and advice and expect you to support your opinions - something that will provide you a good template for other things you do in life.

Wow, five years already! I remember my first conversation was about pit bulls (imagine that, lol!) on Eyes and Ears. I was here for the beta and the conversion to MonroeTalks.

Five years ago I had an infant and a toddler, a new 'spouse,' was recently laid off from my all-time favorite job, had just lost my dear Mom to a severe stroke that left her entirely disabled and unable to communicate, and was just about to lose my dear sister, too, in early July. I've been through hell and back on this forum, I really have, and it has helped me along the way. Having a group of folks to just chitchat with can be intensely important sometimes.

I've had a lot of fun, too--LOTS of laughs, lots of stimulating conversation that a SAHM can't really get elsewhere, and I've met some really swell people. I'm glad we're all still here.

Happy Birthday, MT!!

5 already? Time flies! MT has been interesting, and occupied hours of my time with fantastic Monroe folks. Games, songs of interest, words of comfort and joy have all been a gift to me. Thanks MT!!!  :)

I'm a Pre-Mt'er as well.  It really has been something that gets in your blood.

We've had fun & games, shared laughs, looked for and/or provided support, made friendships, marraiges, babies, and probably had some divorces and definitely some wars.  We've had all of the things that make up "Life", including people who come and go.  We certainly haven't changed the world, but we've certainly made our place in it!

A whole lot has filled these past 5 years.

And, yes . . . time certainly flies!

I rolled in here around 2007, and have been trolling endlessly ever since.

Somehow I haven't been banned. It's not who you know, it's who you know to drink with, apparently. :)

I found MT while looking for places to advertise our Monroe Hamfest. (amateur radio swap and shop) I found the events calendar during a search on google, and noticed MT and started reading through the threads. I trolled for a long time and finally joined 6/9/2007.

BTW Monroe Hamfest, Father's Day at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, check the calendar.

Happy anniversary Monroe Talks!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D

I came aboard here in 2009 after visiting quite a few times.

I like that you can hear of police happenings way before you read it in the paper. Thanks to all of you with the scanners.

I feel like I 'know' alot of you even though we haven't met. (at least to my knowledge we have not met..except for Mayo, I do believe I met him, his wife and son last year. Now Mayo will be racking his brain trying to figure out how/when he might of met me.  ??? )
I feel like BRD is my uncle...always giving good advice. FrenchFry is so much like my older brother it is not funny and Monique's personality fits my friends sister to a t. Skittelroo's posts is so full of life that she most always makes me smile. So glad you signed on Skittel.  :) I feel like I have known Fluffy for years. Not enough time this morning to go through the list of posters that I have enjoyed reading about their opinions and life trials. You can really learn alot about people from their posts.
I am really glad I have enlisted in the 'Talks'.   :)

I have been here since the beginning, and it's been quite a time!

I don't visit MT as much as I used to, but we DID have a lot of fun here, in the beginning!  We would all stay online, talking amongst ourselves until 3 or 4 in the morning!

Five years seems like five months... But in those five years, I got divorced, met and married AtypicalGirl, and we now have two beautiful children!

Thanks, MT, and Happy Anniversary!

When I was a little boy, my mother spoke of a prophecy, of a time when all the world would be covered in darkness and the fate of all of mankind would be decided. One night I finally got the courage to ask my mother why God had changed, why He was so angry with His children. “I don’t know,” she said as she tucked the covers around me. “I guess He just got tired of all the bullshlt.”

What a wonderful compliment NewDawn...   that made my day :D :D :D

I'm sure there are some who don't think all my advice is "good"...

but that's one of the nice things about this place...

everyone is entitled to express their opinion...

even if their opinions are so stupid that only an idiot would believe them :o :o :o

I'm glad you've enjoyed your time here 8) 8) 8)
