  • The BRD in her 'younger' days... 2007.

I remember the afternoon and evening very well...

it was so hot and humid you could swim without being near the water!

We had taken the kids in the boat and gone to "the hot hole"...

I remember seeing what looked like a possible nasty T-storm north of us so we gathered things up and headed back to the dock.  We didn't have the smart phones (very few cell phones even) then to check the weather.  I'd probably had a couple of beers and back then I slept a lot better too so I didn't hear anything about the crash until the next morning.  It still haunts me to drive through the crash site.

Anyway, after almost 25 years the "miracle baby" is finally going to tell her story...

I remember that day too.  I was in the process of scheduling a flight home for a visit from the coast with our travel agent when she told me the breaking news.

I postponed my trip a few months and visited that Thanksgiving instead.

It was still a very moving and quiet moment on my flight when we flew over the crash area as we landed.  I think everyone on that flight was thinking about this little girl at that moment.

Life . . . . . and how it goes on . . . . .  is amazing.

I lived only a few miles from the crash site at the time.   I still remember being worried about my daughter and her friends, as they had just left for a trip up-North.   Had they gone the opposite direction, they would probably have been right in the crash zone.   A miracle to have that one little survivor.   The whole incident still gives me shudders.

I knew the name before reading the article - as it sticks with you, kind of like where where you when 9/11 occurred...   I became Chief of one of the Departments that responded  not long after and it was still an image and issue for some.   Plane crashes rarely offer much in a positive way, as responders are often recovery personnel and the sights sounds and smells can last forever.

Interesting that she went into psychology and I'm glad to see she is doing well.  What great family support she had.

But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.
