But what about dark energy and neutrinos? Ever wonder why they call it the "God particle"?

What about them? And the God Particle is the Higgs Boson. It's a particle yet to be detected, if it exists.  Scientists don't call it the God Particle, they call it the Higgs Boson, and its discovery would only fill in some of the vast puzzle.

Organized chaos. lol

Why is that funny? Ever study Chaos Theory? I went through a bunch college lectures by Steven Strogatz, who specializes in Chaos Theory. It's pretty darn interesting, and you can see how order arises in chaos.

Methinks you've read WAY too many books on philosophy! Do you ever just take a deep breath, relax, and have a beer? Ever read "North and South, by John Jakes?

Methinks some think an uneducated mind is a wasted mind. Me can think whatever me likes, but to each his own.

Stephen Hawkings bet the farm on it. I think he should open up his mind! No, I never studied the chaos theory, I live it lol. I just don't see how we know the slightest bit about the universe, really.

Treating missing limbs and other amazing technological enhancements
« Reply #20 on: June 28, 2012, 06:21:38 PM »

I’m totally with you.  I’ve described myself as a deist for quite awhile.  I feel that logically, some” force” created the Earth and the Universe.  It is also quite evident to any logical person that this “force” has nothing to do with the made-up nonsense in the bible.

While prayer might help a few people now and then by keeping them positive, for the most part it is a very futile waste of time and gives false hope to so many people.  Neveah is a perfect example.  People prayed for her safe return.  Some people actually went on to thank God that here dead body was found.  If the killer is caught, some will give God credit for that despite the fact that the idea is complete nonsense.  Fact is, no one outside of this Earth played any kind of role in that whole horrible story.

People pray for the sick and even give God credit when people get better.  He’s credited with curing cancer and all sorts of other diseases that modern medicine and science can cure, but curiously only certain people are cured.  I guess God only really hates amputees, since he has never responded to their prayers for new limbs.

And my all-time favorite are sports stars thanking God for victories.  Just once, I’d like to hear someone in the losing locker room say, “We were doing great until Jesus made me fumble.”

Medicine has made many recent advancements in repairing the human body and treating such disorders as blindness, deafness and missing limbs. Evolving technologies, many of them available right now, involve implants or wearable devices. They give their users a bionic appearance — an indicator of cyborg technology still to come. Here are some of the new developments, one of them strictly for art's sake:

God answers prayer.

That's like saying cars were an answer to prayers. People have needs so they invent things to help themselves. Has nothing to do with some magical deity that answers prayers.

Meanwhile, 10 children died of starvation while I typed this out. Good thing god answers prayers for robotic arms.

Some people have such an absolute faith in the ABSENCE of a GodHead that the term Religious Zealot would certainly apply.  Unconditional FAITH in his/her/it's own "reason," or lack thereof, is indicative of a psychopath, not a sentient human being...

Pax, some would apply that same logic to you and say you're crazy for not believing in Allah. People deny particular miracle working gods because there is no proof of their power. If you expect someone to believe in Yahweh, Allah, Reincarnation, etc., you better have some reasonable evidence. If you teach Tao is reality, then make a good case for it, as you explain what the Tao is. Whatever your god or lack of god is, explain why you find this most probable.

Sure, some can point out the good things like butterflies and laughter, but those same people neglect mentioning parasites, diseases, etc.

My point was that Atheism is a faith-based religion, Xerxes, requiring the same zealotry of conviction as all other denominational affiliations.  Proofs of the age-old war between Good and Evil exist whether one acknowledges them or instead seeks to "disprove" them with fallible human reasoning or so-called scientific evidence, and it is no measure of credibility to insult or degrade others' beliefs by puerile verbiosity.

When the end-time comes the Terrible Judge won't harken excuses prefaced with the word "but..." that the Great Adversary has inculcated into disbelievers' effete minds.

God answers prayer.

Really??  So everyone who prays get's what they want?
Does God have some sort of system to choose who's prayer's get answered?
Or does it depend on what type of mood He's in?

Please explain.
