County's Under World Being Mapped
« on: June 23, 2012, 07:30:21 AM »

There was an article with this title in the MEN yesterday...

and it shows up plain as daylight in a Google News search...

but when I follow the link provided by Google there's nothing there...

I'll post it anyway and hope it starts working later 8* 8* 8*

http://www.monroenews.com/news/2012/jun/22/countys-under-world-being-mapped/

When I saw the headline I figured it would be a story about some of the local hoodlums running numbers or peddling pills...

Anyway, the gist of the story is that a company is making maps of the area showing possible oil or gas well drilling locations.  They've been working on Albain Road and now they've moved down to Yargerville road.

They set up sensors and then drive along the road and use some piece of equipment to set off vibrations...

Considering the condition of the roads in the area they're working I wonder how much this will ultimately cost the taxpayers in accelerated road deterioration ??? ??? ???

Has anyone actually seen what they're doing?  How bad does it shake?

Apparently when they get out in the even more rural areas they plan on using explosive devices of some sort :-\ :-\ :-\

Think the shaking is bad now? Wait til they start fracking-shooting toxic/radioactive water into the earth.

BRD: they did the unpaved section of Dunbar out west between Meanwell and Wells a bit ago.   Without the flags along the ditch you'd have never noticed.   The larger trucks while doing the study were just that...larger trucks.   No shakes, no tremors that I'm aware of.

Did you know the computer you use to post this stuff to the internet is filled with toxic, poisonous chemicals and materials?

Yes. I def would be interested in an environmentally friendly computers! Bring 'em on! I bet you could build one!
There are alternatives to fracking! Maybe people should admit if we fracking around for finite resources, it is time to transition from fossil to future fuel!

BRD when they did the seismic studies in the Adrian area I don't think I knew of any complaints about shaking. It is interesting to see miles upon miles of what appears to amount to extensions cords and outlets along the sides of the roads.

There is more oil and gas in the ground than anyone will ever be able to shake a stick at.  You want folks to stop looking for it... STOP DEMANDING IT!

You did make a solid point... fracking has been going on for years.... Why stop now?

No fracking... No bridge... No power plants... Lordy how many more jobs do you want to prevent or eliminate only to likely turn around and moan about a terrible economy?  Don't wory you can just blame Obama when you are done.

Ohio Seeks To Avoid Fracking Waste

The oil and natural-gas drilling boom spurred more permits for disposal wells there during the past two years than during the previous decade combined. The volume injected into them was on a near-record pace last year, according to the Department of Natural Resources, and more than half was from out of state. That included 92.6 percent of the water sent to a Youngstown well closed last year after 11 nearby earthquakes.

“We have become in Ohio the dumping ground for contaminated brine,” state Representative Armond Budish, the House Democratic leader, said at a Jan. 26 forum in Columbus. “We didn’t prepare adequately for the potential for earthquakes and other environmental problems.”

Now, Ohio is considering tightening regulations governing wells in response to the temblors and seeking to stem out-of- state fluid shipments. It’s an example of the challenges U.S. states face as they try to enjoy hydraulic fracturing’s economic boost while avoiding its side effects.

I think my ideas are better than using Michigan/Monroe for a gd waste dump! TAKE BACK MICHIGAN!!!

Also, if your road is sprayed for dust, it may be industrial waste. Gov gets paid to spray it around.

Actually that's not a solid argument. Slavery had been going on for years, why stop when they did?

Smoking was considered cool for the longest time, why stop when they found out it was cancerous?

When doing something is found out to be immoral, or hazardous to your health, etc, to continue doing so, just because you've been doing it up to that point, is not a good argument.

My statement was a tad bit tongue in cheek.

However there really is very little that is immoral or overly hazardous about fracking.

Statements like "stop dumping waste in Michigan" are weak, I was simply trying to point out that marilyn.monroe has a reason we shouldn't do anything and everything, and those reasons are posted in order to simply argue.

I could take a strong stance against fracking or exploring for fuels in ANY manner and she would instantly start complaining about $5 gas.  marilyn strikes me as the type that will blog about gas companies fracking and tainting the ground water, during a heavy rain storm, a day after dumping the seasonal fertilizer on her lush lawn.

Just another example of espousing "freedom for all" but only on her terms.

BTW the Cleveland area and adjacent Lake Erie waters have been having minor earthquakes for decades.  Trying to blame fracking at 1000 feet below the surface for a process that occurs miles below the surface in an entirely different layer of rock in another asinine scare tactic.

You think what you like, JBS, I don't think you have paid enough attention the facts on fracking.
