Sometimes faith in Humanity is restored
« on: June 23, 2012, 02:40:22 PM »

I ran up to Foodtown today to get a few ingredients for some homemade spaghetti sauce and stupidly left my wallet on top of my car as I unlocked it and unloaded the groceries to it.

It stayed on top of the car until I reached the south end of the bridge on Telegraph headed towards M50 and it fell off unbeknownst to me.  A woman, about my age - mid-50's or so followed me into my driveway and told me she saw what she thought was a wallet fly off the top of my car at that location.

I thanked her very much and went on my way in a hurry back to the bridge noticing debris (some business cards and personal pictures - and no, get your minds out of the gutter!)  I gathered them up as I was walking across the bridge but did not see my wallet anywhere.

I drove home thinking about all of the things I would need to cancel and as I pulled into my driveway a young man with his two suns were pulling out.  He had found my wallet,..... which still contained my drivers license, credit cards, some peso's, and delivered it.

I talked with him and his sons who were going family fishing, thanked him very much, and we parted ways.

Now, sitting here thinking........two fine folks with a sense of decency and goodness in their hearts reached out to me today.  With the exception of the onset my senility, I feel very fortunate and lucky today along with this restored faith in humanity.  What a great area we live in.....where else around here are the possibilities of this story happening!?

And btw.....my sauce is smelling good right now and I bet it will kick donkey later going down!

Anyway, had to share the story!

Great story.

Reminds me of the time when I found a wallet of a WWII veteran in the Burger King at the corner of Telegraph and Stewart. Looked his name up and called and his daughter answered the phone. They came down to where I was working to pick up the wallet. He wanted to get me a $20 for it, but I told him that for his service to our country, that it was my honor to return it to him.

A neat story...   good to hear it ;) ;) ;)

But I wouldn't be surprised to hear another story that will bring your euphoric bliss crashing back to reality :o :o :o

As far as Brandy Taylor (I believe she spells it 'Talore' now) goes...

she's from just south of Toledo...

so you're right...

it could belong to almost anybody ;) ;) ;)

So glad we pit-stopped home on our way to see Crystal Bowersox @ Dundee Mayfly Festival tonight and saw this nice thread.

YES I believe faith in humanity is a restorable condition and your afternoon verified that!  :)

Thanks for sharing that Fuzz.  It is ALWAYS nice to hear/read something of a kind nature.

As for whatever pictures may or may not have flown out of your wallet . . . . . we'll just call that "your business".    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

My brother lost his wallet about two weeks ago and luckily somebody turned it in to BigLots (out by where he lives in Warren) I guess he backtracked and the manager gave him the good news when he inquired.

Unfortunately he "lost" his wallet again a few days later at Kmart and the outcome wasn't as good. By the time he arrived home, the fraud department of one of cards was on the phone. Shortly after, another fraud department from another credit card was also on the phone. The thieves wasted no time in running up the cards...they shopped all night...the idiots even ordered stuff on the internet...maybe they used the address of an abandoned home....the CC company said they had their IP address.

My bro recalled a woman was uncomfortably close while he contested the price of an item that the cashier had to do a price-check on. She was moving around quite a bit...he thought she worked there but thought better after the incident.

There was only $50 cash in the wallet...and while it's a hassle to replace his ID and all the other stuff he had crammed in there, he seemed most upset over the loss of his fishing license and his 10% off card for Kroger products (his ex had an employee discount)

To me, the worst part is that he kept his SS card in his wallet....that's a big NO-NO!

Sorry if I ruined the feel-good thread with a dose of reality...but it is what it is.
I'm told it's wise to scan or take a picture of the contents of your wallet...guess it's much better than trying to recall what was in there.
Too bad something doesn't exist that would make noise if a wallet or purse ventured too far from the owner.

*edited to fix an omission.
Had no intention of emulating a MEN "poof-reader"
Okay I did omit the r on purpose
  ;D

Not a bad idea on either, FF.   I hadn't thought about the first, and the latter is probably possible by some savvy person.   Thanks for sharing.

Had my own fresh sense of "Faith in Humanity" this weekend myself Fuzz.   The stars must be aligned.  :)

Isn't it nice to know there are good people all around us and to watch that "good in people" cross right in front of our paths?  How can a person NOT pay it forward?

It sure is a nice thing to see and a better thing to share.
