We were acquainted with Billy and his cousin. The story said O'Grady was from Lincoln Park...I heard he was from Ecorse...my source could be wrong but no matter.
On the motorcycle tragedy....a paramedic said a helmet would not have saved the guy...plus there was another great comment just posted:
maybe they should require mandatory helmets for convertibles, golf carts, and people in case they fall down. You take a risk in everything you do, and it is how you manage that risk! As a paramedic I have a job because you can't fix stupid, and people are compelled to do foolish things. Doesn't mean you have to apply a law to force people to give up their personal freedoms because of other peoples action. You are correct in stating I may not have been there, but I have been on many, and most I can state as facts the helmet was a non factor! To prove the point, prior to the repeal law, It was apparent that all the fatalities were helmets were required, obvious didn't help and in some cases compounded the problems. Education is much more beneficial than legislation!
As for the last story...I'm not sure how the street lighting is on Heiss Road, approximately three-fourths of a mile west of Telegraph Road where the tragedy happened, but I have a hunch it's pretty dark there at 3 a.m.....and considering "last call" at the drinking establishments....exiting a vehicle into the roadway was a deadly mistake.
