Three Fatal Wrecks in less than 24hrs in Frenchtown Twp..
« on: June 30, 2012, 11:09:19 AM »

Sad for all the deaths that occurred yesterday and this morning in Frenchtown Twp.. My thoughts to the families involved and all the responding personnel.. Keep it safe Monroe, don't drink and drive, buckle up and be aware of your surrounding..

Shame when two may have been prevented...
#1 - No seat belt
#2 - No Helmet

Prayers for all

It feels even sadder when it happens to someone you know.    Don't know how well you know the family, Lordfly, but please know I care and am so sorry for their loss.

We were acquainted with Billy and his cousin. The story said O'Grady was from Lincoln Park...I heard he was from Ecorse...my source could be wrong but no matter.

On the motorcycle tragedy....a paramedic said a helmet would not have saved the guy...plus there was another great comment just posted:
Quote
maybe they should require mandatory helmets for convertibles, golf carts, and people in case they fall down. You take a risk in everything you do, and it is how you manage that risk! As a paramedic I have a job because you can't fix stupid, and people are compelled to do foolish things. Doesn't mean you have to apply a law to force people to give up their personal freedoms because of other peoples action. You are correct in stating I may not have been there, but I have been on many, and most I can state as facts the helmet was a non factor! To prove the point, prior to the repeal law, It was apparent that all the fatalities were helmets were required, obvious didn't help and in some cases compounded the problems. Education is much more beneficial than legislation!

As for the last story...I'm not sure how the street lighting is on Heiss Road, approximately three-fourths of a mile west of Telegraph Road where the tragedy happened, but I have a hunch it's pretty dark there at 3 a.m.....and considering "last call" at the drinking establishments....exiting a vehicle into the roadway was a deadly mistake.

A driver has come forward in the Heiss Rd. hit and run.

http://www.monroenews.com/news/2012/jun/30/authorities-driver-comes-forward-hit-and-run/

That still leaves several hit and runs in the county "unsolved" over the past few years though.  Seems like most of the victims were walking late at night.

http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/region/monroe_county/teen-girl-killed-in-accident-on-way-home-from-fireworks-in-monroe-county

and yet again.....what a sad way for this family to begin a holiday.....

I heard this on the scanner last night and considering the time it was happening I kind of wondered if it was somebody leaving the fireworks.  There had also been a 2 car "head on" on N. Dixie in Berlin Twsp. just a few minutes earlier but it didn't sound like anyone was hurt real bad.

I went to grade school with the mothers of the motorcycle accident and the Heiss Rd accident victims. Both are real nice families, what a terrible loss. Looks like the motorcycle rider hit a sign when going off the road.

Two unexplainable tragedies. It would be hard not to feel part of their pain.

Sometimes, and I don't know if the three wrecks referred to in the thread title apply, removal of some people's defective DNA from the available gene pool isn't an entirely bad thing...

Looks like the stories on the original links no longer exist.

That exemplifies why the copy and paste function is worth the effort....it preserves information that oftentimes the original sources may consider disposable.

Anyway I heard a few tidbits on what happened with the accident near the RR tracks....the scuttlebutt is that they were being chased by a car they bumped.

Beyond the sadness of a death and the effect on the other driver,
That's quite different than my first thoughts...  something to do with stopping to use the roadside commode.   (Not uncommon at 3am)

Sad if road rage was the cause
