I guess I was surprised we only have Bob Evans on this list.
I just discovered their breakfast steak - very tender,
(my daughter ordered and I took a taste)
I had quite ordering steak and eggs for years because most places had skinny tough steaks

As far as the others
Don't really recall seeing any of them in my travels even.

A few of them are around, but you have to drive a bit.  Troy has McCormick & Schmick's, Morton's, Capital Grille and Ruth's Chris.  Biaggi's, Abuelo, J Alexander's and Bravo are in Toledo.

I like J Alexander's a lot and Biaggi's is pretty OK in my book.  Ruth's Chris is insanely overpriced. I've never had a bad meal at any Morton's, but it's pretty pricey too.

I cant see Monroe ever getting any of these restaurants except for Bob Evans.

Waffle House as the lowest rated family restaurant?  Bad tippers at Shoney's?  I sure didn't have to read an article to know that!

We used to enjoy stopping at Shoney's on our trips south...

usually decent food and decent service...

I remember one interesting "incident" in a Shoney's in Tennessee...

The two oldest kids at least had on "Go Blue" attire of some kind...  and they had just announce what in Tennessee they perceived as the biggest "snub" in sports history...

Woodson over Manning for the Heisman...

our coffee was cold along with the service and a lot of cold stares as we were walking through the restaurant...  in hindsight we were probably lucky to get out of there with all of our tires having air in them!!!

And yes, that is probably the smallest tip I ever left in a Shoney's...  maybe even in any restaurant in the last 20 years...

We don't hit Waffle House very often, but have occasionally...  usually if it's maybe next door to the motel.

One night we had been driving all night (don't do those trips now) and stopped about 5 am just north of Atlanta...   we were just about the only ones in the place except for a waitress and a cook...  and they were arguing...  and it was getting worse...  and louder.  We really thought there was going to be a physical assault...   we hurried and ate and left...   didn't stop at a Waffle House again for several years!!!

i agree with this completely. "I like J Alexander's a lot and Biaggi's is pretty OK in my book.  Ruth's Chris is insanely overpriced"  Went to a Ruth Chris in King of Prussia and was thoroughly disappointed, particularly with the prices.

actually.....lots of people.....and if you haven't had Hardee's biscuits and gravy while living in Tennessee.....you should......or maybe Chick-Fil-A.....or Bojangle's steak biscuit or Bo-berry biscuits.....just because it's 'chain' doesn't mean it's all bad.....well....the taste anyway :)

BRD....so funny.....I remember those days.....we southerners took that personal for a good many years....not sure some of us ever got over it.....although, I did think phone calls to Heisman offices threatening people's lives was a little over the top....

We had a similar incident at a IHIP outside of Nashville.....VERY disgruntled Walmart worker was the only other customer besides my husband and our two small girls.....just kept thinking we were going to die at an IHOP of all places in the middle of nowhere and be splashed all over CNN.....that was my one and only trip EVER to an IHOP.......

The Waffle House incident had to have been just down I-75 from you...   looks like it was at Ringgold, GA.  We didn't hit Waffle House again for many years.

We actually walked next door to WH from the motel one night for a quick dinner on our last trip to Florida...  we joke every time we go in one now...  wondering when the argument is going to start 8* 8* 8*
