Can we all just cut through this BS, PLEASE??

The people who don't have proper ID are either illegal or on the lowest rung of the ladder.  They vote Democrat 2:1.

Therefore D's push to let them vote, obviously.  R's push to enforce voting law (though some would twist this into "blocking"), obviously.

It really is this simple.

yep, all noble and just making laws to prevent what is not found as breaking the law.  Why is it that the real place, absentee voting, that DOES have major problems is not the one being targeted?  Absentee voter fraud, while still not huge in scope, is still pretty bad.  Why not that?  Wanna make a guess?  Maybe because that is 2-1 Republican?  Why demand instant changes to one that has no proof of fraud when one has many instances and is not?  Hmm, All these are instituted by R's and targets D's, must be total accident...

I definitely lean D, but when they didn't ask for ID (seems like they started just a few years ago), I thought that was crazy!  If I knew my neighbors weren't voting, what would legally stop me from going back to the polling place, giving their names and voting?

It just seems like common sense to ask for ID. How would you even register to vote if you can't prove your identity?

Duck,

Felons can vote. Maybe not from prison but voters with felonies on their records can indeed vote. They can't run for president though!!

I don't disagree with moving to photo ID.  I question that it has to be done in weeks rather than phased in over time.

Toledo and other Ohio  politicians making lots of noise about limiting voting hours to keep people from voting.  Everyone in ohio gets application in mail to apply for absentee ballot and postage is paid for.  Early voting too is open like 30 days early mon-fri until 7:00PM 2 of the days,  But no that's not good enough for the democrats.  Big city majors want weekend voting too.  What for?  The people they are talking about don't work and have all kinds of time to vote.  And if you are busy why not use the absentee ballot?  This crap is getting old and its time to take the gloves off and straighten this politician mess out.

I think maybe it must be a state rule because a part of the massive Florida purge was supposedly felons.  Some places felons can vote but have to go to court to get back on registration.

Personally, I am not one that thinks felons should vote.  Commit a bad crime and the loss of a right for  life should be a part of the penalty.

The problem isn't as you said.  It is that polling place hours were limited in democratic areas and extended in republican ones.  Closed on weekends in D areas, and open on weekends in R areas.  The problem isn't "those damn D's want preferential treatment" but rather that they want the SAME treatment.

I like the idea of early voting.  How long is an open question.  But, giving more time seems a good thing.

Absentee balloting is the major area of fraud.  It is real and not a part of any voter fraud changes.... Why?

The R's on MT provided examples of successfully prosecuted transgressors in the past so that should be reason enough not to be stupid. (and I've also pointed out how the law was sufficient prior to the pole tax/voter suppression laws being created by the R's)
I think maybe it must be a state rule because a part of the massive Florida purge was supposedly felons.  Some places felons can vote but have to go to court to get back on registration.

Too easy to be saddled with a felony these days...which already predisposes people to a life of hardship....so taking away the right to vote would place another impediment towards the possibility of improving their lives...and such an action very well could increase the cycle of crime.

For example the kids convicted of letting the air out of school bus tires...a felony...that foolish youthful transgression will have repercussions for years to come...maybe even their entire lifetime.
Jobs are already in short supply...practically impossible for anyone with a police record...but people have to live so it doesn't take a genius to figure out what drives up recidivism rates.
The right to vote allows those with blemished records a scintilla of hope in electing politicians with common sense views of crime and punishment rather than the harsh penalty advocates that seem to be in the majority in the political arena.
Politicians want to known as tough on crime...which is why the United States has the largest prison system in the World.
They need to quit pandering to the people chanting for increasing the penalties...and disenfranchising is tantamount to increasing the penalty.

I never understood early voting. When did that start? Back in the day( yeah, I'm over forty) , election day was Tuesday, and if you wanted to vote, you voted. Also, as to absentee voting, unless you are an invalid unable to go to the polls, a service-person serving outside your home voting district, or you will be in New Zealand on election day, you should go to the polls and vote.
