Speeding in Toledo
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:33:55 PM »

For those of you not familiar with Toledo Streets they have just installed a bunch of new cameras to catch you running red lights and they also clock your speed and will mail you a $120 ticket for 10 or more over.. maybe even less...
New cameras on Alexis road at Lewis, Whitmer drive and Secor..maybe more.

And if you live in Michigan they can't make you pay them, so no harm no foul.

Good for them. If you run a red light or are doing more than 10 over, you deserve it. Too bad Michigan doesn't do more of the same.

They've actually been there a while.  At least they warn you with a sign! LOL  I'm surprised the vandals haven't destroyed them yet.  It crossed my mind, but I'm only in Toledo occasionally, and I'm not prone to speeding or running red lights.

Other than they should be illegal, I almost agree with you.

The problem with them is that I have the right to face my accuser, so I have to be caught, not by a camera but by a person.

Yes, they may be increasing the numbers of them, but they've been around Toledo for years.  And, my son can tell you that they don't just WARN.  :-\   A picture of your car is mailed to you along with a ticket.

I guess ignoring them because you live in Michigan is an option.  But, they don't go away and if you're ever pulled over in Toledo you'll have to answer for it.

So I guess, if you screw up . . . own up to it.

And, don't think those cameras don't work.  They do.

The cameras don't bother me, but what happens if your car is driven by someone else who causes a ticket to be issued ... Who gets the ticket then?

(Ell, I really like your sig line!)
(Hmmm....Ell, didn't I just see a sig line below your post, or am I making things up now?  Never trust the feeble-minded ;) )

If the money went to the state I might. However the money is collected by a company in Florida that keeps most of the dough. I think the city gets like 5 or 10 percent. I'd have to look it up again to be sure.

And for the record, no you don't have to worry about it if you are pulled over in Toledo, not that I ever have been, but I did get a ticket in Ohio for rolling an armored car about 5 years ago, and the points never showed up on my record in MI, and when I moved to Toledo, they weren't there either because I had an MI license when it happened.

The owner of the vehicle gets it until they can prove they weren't driving. Happened to my uncle with his two daughters about five times, but he was a truck driver and proved he was out of state when they got the tickets.

Thank you for the answer, Collegekid!  I didn't know how that would work.
(rolling an armored car?  Wasn't that hard to do? :o)

Not really. Very narrow road, hit a tiny patch of black ice on a sunny January day, the rear tire hit the edge of the road and they are very top heavy. I was doing 20 under the speed limit at the time, nothing I could do.

Told the boss I was, but it was the one day in months I hadn't put it on. I wasn't hurt at all though, hence I told the boss I was wearing my belt. I didn't work there much longer after that anyway.

Ahemm, excuse me, but isn't there anybody else out there that has a problem with this :

The owner of the vehicle gets it until they can prove they weren't driving. Happened to my uncle with his two daughters about five times, but he was a truck driver and proved he was out of state when they got the tickets.
