We created a whole lot of jobs fighting all those wars you love during that time period.

I am OK with EVERYONE paying 35% on everything over $25K.  Your only reply will be that it is somehow unfair to you and the rich should pay more.  That logic is sad.

See if you and your spouse combine to make $100K why would you think $17.5K is too much to pay?  You can still live pretty well on $82.5K right.  But then again (liberal logic kicks in)..... why should you have to pay $17.5K when there is some evil rich fella out there who can just pay enough to cover his share and hundereds of families situated like yours? After all he can afford it if YOU apply YOUR standard to his finances.

DEM RICH FOLKS ARE DEM EVILZ!

Now that I've confirmed your stereotype.

Let's say you and your spouse manage to eke out $30,000. A 35% flat tax rate means that $10,500 is taken out of your paychecks. Big deal, you say; if you can't handle that, just work 15 more jobs and get off your lazy liberal butt and pull yourself up from the bootstraps like a REEL MURKIN!

Problem: There's a more significant cost to the $30,000/year family to get $10,500 taken away from them as taxes then, say, a person making several million a year getting a million dollars taken out as taxes. Why? Well, if you're living on limited means (as a family living on $30,000 may very well be classified as), that $10,500 would go towards such "extravagances" as food, medicine, and rent. Whereas a millionaire losing out on all that hard earned Murkin Cash just means he can't buy another house. He can still live high on the hog.

So sure, tax the poor, and watch food pantries bottom out as everyone starves to death. But who cares, they aren't REEL MURKINS because they're too lazy to work. Stupid poor people. Grind them up and feed them to my pitbulls, I say.

Well Sammy if you don't get the point I am at a loss as to how I can make it any more elementary.

In case you haven't noticed a trend, Kopke, you're a poor communicator. We rarely get your "points".

Funny thing though, nobody made 800 million in the Soviet Union!
I can see why you righties are so angry about the public school system....they've clearly failed to educate you.

So now the race is between Romney and Pelosi? Well lookie lookie...the righties are trying to muddy the issue anyway they can.

From advocating the failed trickle down policies...to making foolish simplistic comparative choices about voting for the rich guy or the other rich guy....I feel sorry for you righties....clearly the Monroe educational system has failed many.

Consider that Republican Herbert Hoover was the President in charge when the stock market crashed and the great depression took hold.
Herbert Hoover's presidential philosophy was based on voluntary cooperation and business self-regulation. Hoover believed that Americans would always answer the call for contributions to support local charity organizations and national groups such as the American Red Cross. He strongly believed that federal involvement in aiding the needy would stifle individual donations and lead to the dismantling of the nation's many charitable organizations.
Further, his firm belief in American individualism blinded him to the necessity for governmental intervention in even the most dire of circumstances.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/biography/presidents-hoover/

Those failed Republican policies didn't work then and are just as ludicrous today.
It would behoove you right-wingers to educate yourselves before continuing to display your ignorance,
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/money-power-wall-street/

LOL @ the MT member touting his business acumen....although one missing fact is that his business failed.

But the subject ought to really be about Romney....he's hiding something or else he'd listen to his fellow Republicans about producing his tax returns...full transparency should be required of Presidential candidates.

The Republican presidential candidate dispatched his five adult sons onto a late night television show where they jokingly told stories of their father's pranks in an effort to humanise the former businessman who critics accuse of being boring.

But the light-hearted anecdotes carried an uncomfortable echo of earlier allegations that Mr Romney had been a bully while at prep school and has a long history of uncaring behaviour.

Matt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor's second son, told how his father would present his children with a stick of butter, telling them "it's so rotten you have to smell it". When they leaned down he would gleefully shove their faces into the plate.

Mr Romney apparently repeated the trick recently with one of his grandsons, pushing the shocked child's head into a platter of whipped cream.

But don't you dare play a prank on Mittens.

Josh Romney told how he once ambushed his father in a darkened basement as Mr Romney groped for the light switch.

The startled private equity boss responded by tackling him to the ground and wrestling him on the floor.

"He does like pranks but he doesn't like to get pranked. We've learned that the hard way," Josh said.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/mitt-romney/9347495/US-election-2012-Mitt-Romney-pushed-sons-faces-into-plates-of-butter.html

Let's see if I got this straight.

1. Mittens and his gang of butt buddies attacked and held down a gay student and used scissors to cut his hair.

2. Later in life, after Mittens got married, he tied the family dog to the roof of the car and drove for several hours when they went on vacation.

3. The big "man" bullied his kids.

4. The big"man" bullies his grandsons.

5. What money he didn't inherit from his dad he got by being a corporate raider and closing factories a businesses while sending thousands of jobs overseas.

6. As governor he trashed the Massachusetts economy and sent jobs to India and Mexico.

7. He lies whenever he opens his mouth about almost any subject and does it without any thought or remorse.

8. He's a creepy little XXXX that doesn't care about anyone that he deems 'below' him

That sounds like he has many of the qualifications to be a good rethuglican.

Just to point out the tax rates are marginal. Meaning when you move up a bracket your next dollar gets taxed at that number, so Shaggy (or would you rather go by Forsythia, just so I know for future reference) 1 billion would not be 800 million in your scenario.LF, if you are going by JBS's numbers, it would be (30,000-($25,000*2))*.35 which would be no tax. The 25,000*2 come from the presumed 25k deduction.

Side note, there is not a way to tell from a tax return if someone is hiding money offshore, or else it wouldn't be hiding.

And this is called bullying? you must hate watching baseball players giving interviews after the game because their teammates bully them all the time.

I'm asking for a graduated tax system with no loopholes.  Anyone making over $1 million should pay 40%.  Anyone making over $5 million should pay 50% and right on up to an 80% tax rate.  On top of it we cut military spending and push more money into green technology, education and stem cell research...
You do realize it would be essentially impossible to create a tax system with no loopholes? Congress, while mostly attorneys, and for the most part intelligent won't be able to create a tax system with no loopholes. First, there is absolutely no way they would be able to figure out every possible business scenario with respects to the tax code. Second, while Congress may spend a decent amount of time on the tax issues, CPA's and tax attorneys will potentially spend the bulk of their year focusing on only a few sections of the code. This will enable them to find the loopholes, and exploit them until congress acts on them.

As usual, your trite contribution lacks significance and again has me wondering about your mental acuity....or worse yet...your level of maturity....and now I'm wondering if your parents know you're up this late.
I apologize for being a bit curt....but I have little patience for fools.
Now for a little context...here's what I replied to:

"Funny thing though, nobody made 800 million in the Soviet Union!"
So if you'd like to argue over your contrived interpretation and post more inane replies....well have at it...but you'll just be playing with yourself.

Made does not equal worth. what is the matter you didn't learn how to comprehend in grade school? If I buy stock today and it shoots up tomorrow, my worth went up, but I did not recognize anything.

Also the Soviet Union is not Russia.

Why is it acceptable for you to call people out, but when people call you out you jump all over them?

Made does not equal worth.
Made CAN equal worth...as in accumulative...or it can mean income....and if you looked at my link...you'd see the top 20 Russian "worth" ranges from 6.5 to 18.1 BILLION.
Smash said 800 MILLION.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Russians_by_net_worth
Although with numbers that high....I doubt it's earned income.

You may be a numbers cruncher...but the meaning of words seems to elude you.
Quibble all you want...triviality seems to be your specialty.

Actually if you have read any of the past posts, that would be 35% on ANYTHING over $25K ($50K if you are married).

Stick that into your dreamland calculator and get back to me with your "...but $20 to me horrible but $23M for that guy is just dandy!" BS argument.

Try reading, dropping the snark, and posting like you actually have something to say.
