Here's an article on what this drought could possibly end up costing us in the long run...

after I read it I got to wondering...

is this Bush's fault or Obama's fault :-\ :-\ :-\

It would take almost 5" of rain to bring us back to average. I haul 600 gallons of water every 4 days from town just to water my garden.

I thought I heard thunder a few minutes ago...

but it's been so long since I've heard thunder I'm not sure what it sounds like I guess ;D ;D ;D

I've been out watering flower beds this morning...  our lawn is just too big to water...   someday I'd like to put in underground sprinklers but it would be a major project!

We got a sprinkle here in Milan.  Less than 1/8 of an inch.

It's already evaporated.

I've been watching the weather maps for 2 weeks looking for some rain...

I've seen it rain completely around us but all we have had is a few drops...

looks like that is about to change...

I just don't see how it can miss US this time 8) 8) 8)

The radar shows this storm being about an hour away, but channel 2's "futurecast" shows it dissipating right as it enters Monroe County.

I think You are right, Dawg, and channel 2 is wrong (thay've been wrong a lot).  I think this storm is going to hit us, and give us some beneficial rains.

I sure hope so!!   Just hoping it isn't the kind that does even more damage to whatever crops have a possibility of reviving.   Keep us posted on your fields, Livewire.

The heavier rains are already shifting south, going around Milan, and my farms.  At least those in Monroe will get some rain, it appears.

Well, it did, Dawg.  The rain dissipated and shifted south of Milan.  We got a light sprinkle.

Unbelievable.

I had high hopes when the nice, steady, soft rain started.  Unfortunately, it didn't last long enough to make a piddling puddle.  Dundee is dry >:(

Sounds like maybe we got a little more than Dundee or Milan...   I still can't believe all that huge system just dissipated like that :( :( :(

I just went out to get the mail and the only "wet spots" are where I watered yesterday...

everything else has already dried back out 8* 8* 8*

NCDC marks June 2012 as the 6th worst month on record.

It’s time to stop comparing this year’s drought to the dire conditions of 1988. The 2012 drought has officially entered Dust Bowl-era intensity. The percentage of U.S. currently in drought now rivals conditions not seen since the mid-1950s and early 1930s.

A recent report by the Weather Channel indicates that more than 54% of the nation was in drought this June, which makes it the 6th worst month since the National Climatic Data Center began tracking such data in 1895.

The neighbor is getting some real good looking 2nd cutting alfalfa hay and it looks like they'll get it baled without getting any rain on it...  There's not a lot of it there but what is looks pretty good...  but I'm wondering if they'll get a 3rd cutting...  this almost looks like 3rd cutting hay now :-\ :-\ :-\
