Me too...except for the time I thought I saw a rabbit scurry into a hole....I stuck my arm in and pulled out a creature with a large thick tail.

It tried to reach up and bite me but I shifted its weight like a yo-yo to keep it at bay.
Too afraid to let it go, I feared it would attack me so I strained to walk the 1/2 mile home with my arm outstretched. Seemed to take forever but I finally arrived and caged the creature. (to this day I still have well developed deltoids) Wasn't long before the animal escaped though.

I believe it was a muskrat...but could've been an opossum...the details about the creature has been lost due to the various brain injuries.

I still recall the water moccasin snakes swimming in the water-filled ditches alongside the RR tracks...I'm just glad Michigan doesn't have gators.

I also loved riding my bike down steep hills....the only downside was getting a tire caught in one of those erosion ruts.

A river was at the bottom of the hill...not real close though...plenty of time to stop before landing in the water.

There was a giant tree there with a thick rope attached....lots of fun swinging across the river and ending right back at the same riverbank.

Except the time I came in backwards and my tailbone hit the tree....it was an excruciating long walk home...certainly couldn't ride my bike....not even with my weight just on the pedals.

Loved that bike though....did wheelies all the time....and then moved up to a minibike....and finally a motorcycle but by that time my days of being a kid were over.

Finding empty pop bottles to cash in at the corner store for candy

Running home hysterically for money when you heard the Good Humor truck (or bike)

Swimming, swimming, swimming and swimming some more.

Sleep overs

Jiffy Pop Popcorn and Faygo Rock N Rye Floats

Playing Tag, Hide N Seek, Mother May I, Red Light/Green Light

Riding bikes

Scratching squares on the sidewalk with a rock (because we didn't have chalk) and playing hopscotch.

I grew up on a farm with lots of brothers so we were always involved in some kind of mischief. I would never let my kids do some of the things we did. We had a huge underground hideout dug out in a large wooded section of the farm. The top was covered with logs and tree branches then covered with a foot of dirt. If that ever caved in we would have all been buried and our parents probably never would have found us. I don't think they ever knew about it. One 4th of July my dad went to the lumber yard and came back with a lot of stuff and we proceeded to build a tree house high up in a Crabapple tree in our font yard. It was about 6 by 6 foot and it even had aluminum windows and door and a shingled roof. It was about 20 feet up in the tree and we used to climb way up to the top of that tree and we could look out over the top and see for a long ways off in the distance. My brothers built two more tree houses back in the wooded area of the farm and used to camp out over night in them. We had a 40 foot antenna tower we used to climb regularly to get on the house roof. I can't believe none of us ever fell off of that or out of the trees we would climb. My dad was welder, and would build gas engine powered go carts that we would race up and down the roads and around the farm. We would ride on the top of the combine when my dad was picking the wheat fields, just a thin metal top holding us above all that grinding equipment inside that machine. Wow I could go on and on. I don't know how my parents kept from having a nervous breakdown.

Sounds like the makings of a serial killer.
Quote
Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz and Jeffrey Dahmer have more in common than just being serial killers. These three murderers are also connected by the fact that each of them tortured and/or killed animals during their childhoods. "Researchers as well as FBI and other law enforcement agencies nationwide have linked animal cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse, serial killings and to the recent rash of killings by school age children", says Dr. Randall Lockwood (vice president of training and initiatives for the Humane Society of the United States.

Some children are cruel to and torture animals to impress their peers, but future serial killers usually torture animals purely for their own enjoyment. Animal abuse is a recognized sign of a mental disorder. If a child hurts animals it should be a red flag and immediate action should be taken. While there are many factors that contribute to someone becoming a serial killer, the one constant they share is animal abuse.

Used to go to St. Mary's Park and take a roll of wax paper. Used to tear off a sheet, sit down on it and and "fly" down the metal slide. It seemed like it was a lot faster on those hot sunny days.

Using our plastic wading/swimming pools go down hills in the winter. Fun by yourself but gets interesting with two or more people.

Leave it to Frenchfry to post a copy and paste in "Remembering those fun things you did as a kid...

Maybe he could tell us a real story like how he used to tear pictures out of magazines and tape them onto construction paper when the kindergarten teacher asked them to draw a picture. ;D
