I doubt the "kiss-in" will attract as many people.

Those counter-protesters aren't supposed to buy anything and that removes a large incentive the chubby Conservatives had.

To be honest, this issue isn't as important to me as the others.
The only openly gays I've met were members of a group called log cabin Republicans.
Man the discussion was lively to say the least.
Those fools defy logic.
To make matters worse...many of 'em were ex-pats....living in Mexico.

Judging by the heavy concentration of righties in this topic, they need a win....so at this point....I'll go the way of choosing my battles wisely.

But I do wonder why the righties are so passionate about the issue.
I've witnessed that before...and only later was it revealed that they too were gay.

Cenk says while the politicians voiced their opinions...nobody actually banned those restaurants.

I can show you where they donate the money they make to organizations that do those things. And it's not in small amounts.

That is secondary to whether or not they should be allowed to operate a business.  Which is at the core of this discussion.

That's not the issue here at all. Of course they should be allowed to operate a business, that's the free speech portion of this.

Plus what you are quoting was a response to another post, so it shouldn't be taken out of context.

Actually the controversy is the idea that Chic-fil-A should not be allowed to operate a business in certain places because the owner has a very one sided viewpoint of an issue.

I wasn't taking your post out of context, just reminding everyone what the actual issue is.  The issue is not about a kiss in, the issue is not about pushback against the gay community, the issue is INDEED about personal freedom, and tolerance of one person (who happens to make a lot of money and donate it to causes that many of us feel are bigoted) to pursue his freedom np matter whether you find it repulsive or not.

There are a ton of institutions who give money to things I disagree with... I do not try to stand in their way of conducting business, I just don't give them my money.  Personally I couldn't care less if anyone buys or doesn't buy Chic-fil-A chicken, I won't buy it because it is not readilly available to me AND I just don't really like it.  Popeye's on the other hand... YUMMMMMMMMMY!

He has every right to have whatever view he wishes, doesn't mean you have to like it or that he doesn't have the right to have a business, regardless of it's location...That's out right ignorant and WRONG!

But, honestly, I've never had Chic-fil-A and don't think I'm missing anything...Popeye's is F***ing awesome... ;D

Evidently it's heartening for you to see bigots rallying to support one another.

I see that even the ACLU agrees that stopping the company from opening locations because of the owner's bigotry isn't legal.

Plenty of people supported those who fought legalization of interracial marriage or the rights of women and minorities to vote too.  Was that "justice"?  Fifty years from now when you are long-dead, this issue will seem equally ridiculous and the supporters of this company today will appear to everyone to be what they really are: ignorant bigots. Sometimes it just takes time.  Enjoy your temporary "victory.  Fortunately, the clock is ticking towards the extinction of your type.

Sorry, Not even close.  Although he only recently came out in favor of gay marriage, How convienient! Obama has consistently opposed attempts to limit the rights of same-sex couples.  He has never made idiotic statements like Don Cathy has about  "inviting God's judgement on our nation." Chick-fil-a has also donated millions to anti-gay organizations and continues to do so.

So what? It's their money to do with what they want. Oh crap, that damned 1st Amendment thing again!

 Obama hasn't.

So what. How many of our troops has he sent to die for the bankers wars? He is just the 3rd term of JW Bush!

On the one hand, Chick-Fil-A is gross, and probably on the wrong side of history. On the other hand, Mr. Chicken Filla can say whatever he wants, it is still a free country, somehow. Just because he's a bigoted jackanape doesn't mean he shouldn't get to dig himself into a gigantic, bigoted stupid hole with his words.

Free speech does not mean only your speech is free. Yes, you are free to boycott a fast "food" chicken frying place. He's also free to do what he wants with the business, including denigrating a significant portion of the population

Who the hell are you talking about?
The insignificant portion of folks who call themselves "GAY" or what ever euphimisim  they are this week?
Just because it is "politically correct" to pay them the undue attention they recieve from the media does not in any way make them a significant portion of the populus.
IF, they were any kind of "significant" part of this country they should start their own political Party and we'll see just how far they get!
BAM!
Noise is just that.
The Log Cabin Rebublicans will testify to that! And, they just tow the line, no different that the Right to Life crowd. Blend in and OBEY.

at his peril.  Calling for the ban/burning down/shutdown of his restaurants only hoists him up like a martyr.

In short, don't eat at fast food joints and you won't have this problem.

Keeping track in this thread:

CK and LF... ding ding... winner, winner, chicken dinner (pun intended).

A business person being ignorant,

How is he ignorant?

Ignorant of what?

bigoted and proud of it is quite American.

Disagreeing with those you find to be ignorant, bigoted, and proud of it, AND being vocal about them and refusing to support them is also quite American.

Using the government to try to prevent a person from conducting business because they are ignorant, bigoted, and proud of it is well quite UNAMERICAN!  Yet exactly what elected representavtives are attempting to do to Chic-fil-A in at least two US cities.

Sounds like John is hiding something if he wants photos of my brother kissing another man.

As for Shaggy kissing other men, I never asked him if he has before.  I always thought he could be bisexual, but considering how many women he goes through in a given calander year I doubt that.  What I do know is he supports myself, and all those in the LGBT community.

Now as for you people who support only traditional marriage, I'm sorry you feel that way.  It's obviously discrimination against a class of people and you need to get over it.  What harm will come if I'm allowed to marry my lesbian lover.  How will you be affected?   Have you looked at the economic benefits of allowing us homosexuals to marry?

Funny, I asked the same questions about the old Helmet Law and people lost their "collective" freaking minds!
Discrimination of an identified minority.
Potential harm to the over all society.
Economic benefits to our State.
Hmm. Sounds very familiar to me.
Stick with it. It only took us 32 years to kill an un-Constitutional law in this State, and we still aren't done yet!

You conservative small minded people make no sense.

Oh and Flanders, I know a lot of straight women who watch gay porn because they like seeing a couple, or more, guys going at it.  What's that old saying?  "A kiss is just a kiss".  I don't care who's kissing. It doesn't gross me out unless they're slobbering all over each other in public.

Nice pic, but you have to take this into account.  We can change what happens in our country. We have no power over what happens in other countries.

I was absolutely floored you said this!

I know you know better!

Iraq, Libya, Iran, Viet Nam, Korea, Etc., Etc. Etc.

Take a peak at the Banana Republics?

By the above photo you support the stoning of women who go out uncovered in public or go out in public without a male escort.  It's two different things Salt.

That being said boycotting Chik-fil-A does get the attention of a bigot, and if we can have one less bigot in the world, I'll be a much happier little flower.

Oh and just for the record, my car gets over 40mpg so I'm doing my best not to support the people of OPEC.

I fully believe that you are allowed to have your beliefs, but when your beliefs include inequality and turning a group of people into second class citizens that upsets me.

Me too! What I'm wondering is when you both will come together under the understanding the Republicans and the Democrats can't stand either one of you but will use the differences between you to keep you divided and them in power?
The Scripture speaks clearly to all of us when is says a house divided can not stand. If it is Sin you seek to point out just look in a mirror.
Come on, pluck out that plank in your eyes and come together. Obama and Romney could care less about the both of you or your personal beliefs. It's Party uber alles!
That is what keeps the Duopoly in power.

There are plenty of christian churches that take no issue with homosexuality because they understand the difference between the new and old covenants.  You have totally avoided responding to me when I questioned you if you actually understood what your bible teaches you.

Tou have the right to call me perverse all you want.  You can think that me being gay will send me to Hell, but you cannot discriminate against me because I was born attracted to the same sex.  This is not a choice like so many fundamentalist christians think it is.  We cannot be "reformed".  Myself, and all homosexuals, were born this way.  I just dont understand why you feel the need to relegate us to second class citizens.  Why is it that you have the right to discriminate against me, but as soon as I ask for equal rights I am the bad woman.

Equal rights you ask?
Why did Obama throw over a hundred years of contractl law under the bus when he bailed out the auto companies? Where are the bond holders equal right under the law?
Where is your "standing" under the last ten words of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution?
and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Again, tell me again how homosexuals getting married will effect you directly.  How will I ruin your institution of marriage?

Whose "institution" God's or the States?
You can petition the State all you want, but as Scripture says; "God will not be mocked." His Institution is quite clear.

I've been waiting on a logical answer to that question for decades.

I was speaking in generalities.  If ANY person chooses to ignorant, bigoted or in some cases stoooooooooopid, they have every right to do that.

And if you or anyone else wants to support that ignorance, bigotry or stupidity through the capitulation of their FRN's (cuz lets face it, they aint taking your lumps of silver for that slab of fried chicken).  That is their right too.

Not sure what about my post had you worked into a tizzy.  Must have been the impending reference to silver.

Man you freaking HATE the First Amendment don't you?

To be clear, I stand with the ACLU on this one, agreeing that the company has the right to whatever stance they choose on the issue.  I absolutely support the right to free speech, even if it is hateful.  I also agree that they shouldn't be prohibited from opening new locations because of their stance.

From what I read, the Boston mayor wasn't saying they shouldn't be allowed to open a restaurant.  He was saying that their anti-gay marriage stance wouldn't go over as well in Boston as in the South (where bigotry is still celebrated by many.)

And, yeah, tons of people showed up to support the chain.  John was calling this "justice" in the original post.  I maintain that these people aren't much different than the crowds that showed up to support bans on interracial marriage way back when, and I'm sure history will prove me right.
