The Master Electrician supervises and is responsible for all other Electricians working on any construction/installation project. Only the Master Electrician can pull the permits with the electrical authority, and can only be registered with one electrical contracting company at any one time.

Odd, that wiki description seems to be centered around stage lighting in the entertainment field.

Here's what an Electrician wiki states:

Quote
Before electricians are allowed to work without supervision, they are usually required to serve an apprenticeship lasting from 3 to 5 years under the general supervision of a Master Electrician and usually the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician. Schooling in electrical theory and electrical building codes are required to complete the apprenticeship program. Many apprenticeship programs provide a salary to the apprentice during training. A Journeyman electrician is a well rounded craftsman who has met the experience requirements for on the job training (usually 4080 to 6120 hrs) and classroom hours (about 144 hrs.); they may also have a two year relevant degree and another two to three years of apprenticeship training and have passed a licensing exam for their jurisdiction, be it state, county or city. They are trained in all phases of electrical construction installation in various building styles (residential, commercial, industrial, basic electronics) and maintenance of equipment after installation. All of their time is well documented under the jurisdiction of the state government in order for their time to be credited. A Journeyman is usually permitted to perform all types of electrical work except the design of electrical systems, although in some jurisdictions a Journeyman may design systems within certain limits. By contrast, a residential electrician is only permitted to work on residential projects with limitations (for example under 4 stories), and apprenticeship is typically four to five years. In certain states like Michigan, to go on to be a Master Electrician and then an electrical contractor, a journeyman has to work another two years past his passing of the extensive exam given and then apply to take the Master's exam which is another very rigid exam. Then they can apply for an electrical contractors license according to the guidelines of that government.

I imagine someone claiming to be a "Master" would have some sort of credentials to substantiate that claim.

Ironically, Romney just rolled out a new attack ad starring Newt Gingrich touting Master janitors.
Newt said schools ought to get rid of their unionized janitors, have one MASTER janitor and put the kids to work.

Sounds quite like the kids making shoes offshore.

I agree 100% the only reason why I have cats instead of dogs is because I'm not home enough.

I'm a little late coming into this, butttt......

Controlling the fight or flight is definitely a learned behavior.  You have to train youself in order to remain calm.  There's no doubt about that.  I'll admit it is difficult to do sometimes, but theres no reason a person can't learn to control it.

Yes an attacking dog can be a bit intimidating, but they are predictable.  It's actually quite easy to disable an attacking dog with your bare hands if you remain calm and can predict the animals next move, which will be going for the kill or an attempt to disable you.

I must admit if someone "trained" themselves to remain calm during a dog attack on them or a loved one, and actually DID remain calm, I would be shocked.

At the beginning of this year, my adorable daughter was playing by the couch where our dog Kayla was laying. Zo was talking, laughing, doing what any baby does at 15 months old.
I was sitting here watching her play, smiling as I usually do, and she leaned over to Kayla to give her a kiss. She's a very loving baby...

At that moment, I heard Kayla growl at her and she moved toward her, knocking Zo down (and of course she started crying because she was scared). I flew up out of my seat, without even thinking, and leaped toward Kayla. NO DOG, even my own, will do that to my precious baby.

I was crying, screaming, and ended up with a broken blood vessel in my hand. I chased her through the house until I could get a hold of her to take her to her cage.

I understood that Kayla most likely didn't like Zo in her face, and to this day I have taught Zo not to do that. Shoot, whenever she goes near the dog, Kayla moves (I think she remembers lol).

All in all, she's a sweet dog. She just doesn't like anyone in her face (like a lot of dogs that I've come across) and that night she let us know that. We haven't had any problems like that since.

The thought of getting rid of her crossed my mind, but I love her dearly. Granted I love my kids more, but Kayla is just like my kid. I just make sure to keep the kids out of her face and I NEVER leave them alone with her.

I guess my point is, being calm in a situation like that is very hard to do. If someone is capable, then I applaud them. I personally don't think I could keep "calm". My adrenaline was pumping and I was furious. A little scared, yes, but I acted quickly out of fear that something would happen to my baby. I think it was just the "mother's instinct" in me.

ATG, it sounds like you were calm to me.  And you also reacted like any mother that I know would have if her child was in any kind of danger.  Luckily, you were able to show your dog YOU are alpha, not her.  You even showed your dog that your DAUGHTER was alpha, not her (the dog).

Your dog acted on an instinct in the manner it knows in nature.  She growled.  That's talk to the dog.  Sounds like she was telling the baby to "back off".   BUT, you never know with any animal.

I LOVED reading about your actions.  I loved it.  It's that nature in us as mothers to do whatever has to be done to protect our children that is awesome.  In fact, I found a lot of comfort in knowing I had that in me as my son was growing up.  Knowing that fierce reaction was just under the surface made me not so afraid of emergencies.

No, you reacted with adrenaline AND control.  That's some FINE motherhood right there.   :)

Props to all you family protecting fathers out there too.  :)

LOL I didn't feel very calm!! I was shaking so bad; I don't know if it was from anger or fear!

But thank you :) It did make me feel good that I could "stand up" to an 80 pound dog!

I was riding my bike on W.4th street today, and a pit bull came out of nowhere charging after me. Before he was able to get my leg,  I kicked him and he came back two times growling and trying to attack me again. I was screaming for the owner, but no one came out. Luckily I made it home.

I had a similar thing happen to me years ago, but it was a Boxer.

Point is.....regardless of breed a dog owner must take due care in watching their pets.  We always had our dog in a fenced area in the backyard, and if he wasn't contained there one of us was always right there with him.  Mind you this was a gentle mix (Shepard/Lab), but he had the propensity to be territorial and protective of the immediate family.

Gosh, I still miss that mutt so bad.

Nothing to make light of a loose dog in a neighborhood - but most dogs enjoy chasing wheels/tires, which many interpret to wanting to attack the rider.
Wheels,  shiny lights (spokes), ...  hard to break them of this habit until they have a bad experience.

Yep, I bet that cute li'l sweetie-pie pitty was just chasing sparkly wheels and wouldn't have harmed WillowRaven a bit had he caught her! Maybe he just wanted to cover her calf in slobbery love-dog kisses!  8*

Police and Animal Control should've been called immediately. What if that had been a kid on the bike? I detest people who don't properly contain their dogs. Inconsiderate idiots, every one.
