That they like helping the underprivileged, or that they like helping themselves?
FB:
"Like helping the underprivileded". Compassionate and caring. How can you argue with that? Well I'll give it a shot.
Today's reality doesn't have much to do with those words anymore. Caring and compassion towards the underpriviledged is run through HHS and administered
through hundreds of federal government programs. Thousands of bureaucrats
shuffling the paper necessary to keep the gears turning and the checks going out the door. When the government increases spending for the underprivaledged we
are told this demonstrates how we are even more caring and compassionate.
Well I don't think so. You've got the inner city poor. Government works diligently to make sure they are able to survive. They may have to live in a toxic dangerous environment, but they endure. That's about it. For far far too many of these folks that will be all they'll ever know. They've never even heard of the American Dream! No education, no marketable skills, no esteem, no future. But the wheel turns and the government creates more programs, hires more bureaucrats, spends more money and the checks keep going out the door. The number of poor people increases.
Government doesn't improve the situation of the poor, it perpetuates it. To me
that is neither compassionate, nor caring, nor helping the underpriviledged.
