Do you notice?
« on: December 14, 2007, 07:31:20 PM »

I'm a techinician in the auto field. I do R&D, fatigue testing, etc.

My job requires attention to detail with explicit documentation: finding hair-line cracks, noting wear progression, all kinds of boring stuff.

Lately, I've realized my work habits are following me outside the lab. Such as the bathroom at work. So while you're in the seated position, there's a few scazzy looking printouts of last weeks' news from some news website, there's American Hunter, PC World- all tucked behind the rolls of paper, or on the floor- whichever wasn't convenient. I'm not a fan of reading on the throne, so I usually just stare at the back of the door.

Then I started noticing....

There's spin'n slam guy; he stands up, turns around, and faces the toilet to wipe. (hope all is secure and he's successful at making the basket!) :D
There's guy that grabs 4 pulls, then uses that material for about a minute straight. I think the paper supplied at work would put a heck of a gloss on my aluminum boat with a minute's worth of elbow grease- yikes! :o
Then, there's guy(s) that mask. You know, as if I didn't just hear that blowout just because you attempted to try to flush at the same time.  :-[
Oh, perhaps my favorite, dumping Nextel guy. Yup, while assuming the position, he passes the time two-waying customers, friends, whatever. So much for my meditation time, bleep-bleep! :-X

There's several more, but some may be about to purge, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Again, my training starts to work again, as in the failure analysis: "What caused this?"
Well, I've decided that spin'n slam guy probably had his mother wipe the hiney, so she turned him so she could see. Maybe these are all just quirks, but I'm noticing...

So what about you? Do you notice?

One in four people are mentally disturbed.
If three of your friends seem ok, you're the one!

Very interesting post, 7n7!  I notice many things about people.  I enjoy working with and observing people.  Go to the casino sometime, especially the ones in Las Vegas.  You can sit and watch people ALL day long - you will see every type of person there, from the lowest scum of society to the biggest millionaires.  Sometimes, they're one and the same!  LOL!!!

Anyway, interesting topic.  I'm sure there will be comments about your bathroom examples, too!   :D
I'll add more later...

Too funny!  The ladies bathroom is a completely different dynamic.  Regardless of our activity or purpose for the visit, we behold the throne.  So you guys have an obvious disadvantage there.

Go to a busy place such as a airport, a Mall, etc.  Sit down and just watch what people do, how people act, how curteous or not people are.   I have done it a few times, and it is amazing how people are during the different at different times of the year.  Whether they are shopping, just out for a walk, etc.   You watch people and you notice things about them and yourself.
