Best news would have been not to attack Iraq.

The surge is working, but shouldn't have been needed.

I know a captain in the army and he is over in Iraq right now, and he said that what the Bush administration is telling about the violence being down, is not true. It's probably a political trick to give the GOP presidential nominees a boost. I wouldn't put anything past the Bush regime.

With half my brain tied behind my back. This is your argument?  The British left and the result is 45 women were killed for being immoral.  Does it occur to you that if the British hadn't left prematurely this atrocity would not have happened?  Do yourself a favor and take the unusual step to use your
blindly partisan brain to think for a change. You make arguments that would be an embarassment even to
your loony left brethren.

There lies the argument John, will we have to stay forever? Once troops leave violence escalates. Besides our government has told us things are good in Iraq for so long, it all depends on what is good. Knowing the culture over there, we will never have peace in that nation as long as we are on their soil. It took Great Britain 25 years to discover that.  I am not trying to be argumentative, I am stating facts.

Ok little Rush...

Does it occur to you that if the British hadn't left prematurely this atrocity would not have happened?

Please define "prematurely".  If you want to avoid other atrocities/bloodletting, when and under what circumstances can the troops come home?  Once you identify the necessary circumstances, please explain why you think they are likely to occur in the near future, if ever.  Of course the surge should temporarily reduce levels of violence, but the issues are really about reasonable sustainability and lasting effects.  Can we sustain the surge forever?  If so, at what cost?  What happens when the surge ends?

Do yourself a favor and take the unusual step to use your blindly partisan brain to think for a change.

Wait John, are you the pot or the kettle?

Obviously the Republicans' plan is to stay there forever, just like Korea.

Because lord knows we can afford it right now. 9 trillion dollar debt, huge trade deficit, and a weak dollar? Hell yeah, let's occupy the Middle East. Rah Rah, America!

Even if we leave there is no concept of peace in their culture...As long as there is Islam and Christianity there can be no peace with these people...

Yes.  It's gonig well.  The Turks are invading from the north.  And the Shiites in the south are creating a miniature version of Iran.

Thankfully, the Sunnis did some math and realized they'd never win a war with just 20% of the population and stopped shooting our guys.

The success of the troop surge is just damning evidence that we never had enough troops there in the first place.  And we still don't.

But the Bush "run-out-the-clock" strategy is working.  He'll be able to wrap up the mess and gift it to his successor.

We should cut our losses and get out. There will soon be another dictator. Our sons and daughters will not die over there, our tax money will go where it belongs, here at home to help americans.
