Ida Fire (and so far Summerfield and LMR) are out on a silo fire right now.  Many years ago our township fire chief (where I was born and grew up) was killed fighting a 'Harvestore' fire (they're the blue glass lined silos that got real popular about that time).  After that fire they actually re-wrote 'the book' on fighting Harvestore type fires.

Sounds like the fire in Ida is under control...   just as a news crew showed up so no blazing fire to see on the noon news ;) ;) ;)

They also had Bedford township FD on 'standby' and have released them.

I looked on Google street maps and don't see any tall silos at the location although it looks like there are a few big round grain bins.

Actually the reference to it being a silo fire was from central dispatch...  originally it was dispatched as a 'structure' fire...   which, technically a grain bin is a structure.  Then when they were sending Summerfield and LMR they called it a silo fire.  I couldn't picture any silos where they were saying it was so I looked on Google Streetview and could see several grain bins but no silos...  so unless they had built a silo since Google took pictures I was pretty sure it was a grain bin...   then I saw the picture from 13ABC that I posted.  Actually, in this particular case, the 'newsgal' would absolutely know the difference...   she's McKenzie Kuehlein (hope I spelled both names right) and she grew up in Raisinville on a farm!!!

I happened to be back in the house later in the morning and heard Ida FD was requesting Summerfield to return to the scene with a tanker so they could make more foam.  They said they had most of the grain unloaded from the bin and it was starting to come out hot so they knew the 'hot stuff' was about down to the bottom!!!

I just heard a 'new' twist on a dispatch for a city rescue...

Central listed a few symptoms which included severe vomiting and then added:  "the victim has NOT been out of the country"...

must be some new protocol....

perhaps from all the Ebola fear :-\ :-\ :-\

Hadn't heard that - but it does make some sense with the hospitals in the area spending MILLIONS on training and equipment -

I wonder how much of that MILLIONS ended up on first responder vehicles?
