I don't even remember where the call was for sure...

Bedford I think...   but not positive...

last night though...   I do remember that ;) ;) ;)

Rescue call for a man (don't remember the details as I was deeply engrossed in another project at the time)...

Where the first responders arrived they were held at bay at the front door!!!  The responders called central dispatch and asked to have a deputy sent to the scene ASAP because the man's dog wouldn't let them in the door!!!

The dispatcher was quiet for a few seconds (I'm sure maybe stifling some laughter) and then she advised that the dog was a 'Jack Russell'...

at that point the FD responded they were on the scene and had made access!!!

We usually chased them to a room and locked them in - unless there was a family member around to take them.

Ankle biters - can be difficult  ;D

Ankle biters - can be difficult  ;D

One of our volunteers (up north) was a 'full time' paramedic with the local county run service...

He was on a transport call one time and the young gal (20s) didn't really want to go to the hospital but she wasn't physically resisting either.  As they were about to wheel her out the door she asked if she could just say 'goodbye' to her 'puppy'...  up to this point no one even realized there was a dog in the house.

Someone opened the door she indicated and this huge 'whatever' kind of walked out and was looking around at everyone...   and about then the quiet little gal commanded "Get 'em Satan"...   the nice puppy was instantly 'not so nice'!!!  Our ff was closest to her so the dog made him the main target!!!

The only 'weapon' he had was his hand held radio...

one reason I still prefer Motorola equipment...

it took a lickin' and kept on tickin' ;) ;) ;)

Yes, the ankle biters can be more of a distraction than anything else!

The city just got dispatched to Michigan Avenue...

a propane tank on fire...

in the basement of the house!!!

Not sure how this will turn out but it could be real bad!!!

There is a reason you shouldn't take propane tanks inside!

I'm hoping it's just a small 'torch' type tank...

but won't be surprised if it's a hundred pound tank they're using for heating the house :o :o :o >:( >:( >:(

Fire truck damaged in crash?
« Reply #488 on: February 20, 2015, 02:36:59 PM »

I was going in and out the back door taking care of the dogs and only heard part of it on the scanner...   sounds like it is either a city or a Frenchtown truck...   and it sounded like it was on Telegraph!  The driver was talking so it doesn't sound like he was hurt (pride maybe)!!!

The truck is on the way to the DPW building so must have been a city firetruck!

They're just dispatching Summerfield Rescue for a call...

a woman shot herself in the foot...

Dispatcher said "unsure if she did it intentionally or accidentally"...

I'll go with accidental...  if you really, really wanted to do some damage there are places to shoot yourself!!!

although there have been some strange calls lately ;) ;) ;)

The scanner has been going non-stop since about 5:30 am!

Bad wreck on S. Dixie at Luna Pier Road.

Just starting to get into the wires down or hanging low calls right now.

One call (I missed where) for a 6 year old that fell off the porch and possibly broke a leg.

Dispatched as priority 3.

Taxi was too expensive so a "free" $300 ambulance ride will get her to her "Free" doctor's office (Emergency room)

One of the reasons I eventually lost interest in being a volunteer firefighter...

even out in the country we would get way too many calls that should have been taken care of without involving a fire department and an ambulance service involved.

I never ever had a problem getting up to the pager at 3am if a call was truly life threatening or if the caller was even sincere in thinking it 'could be' life threatening!

Very, very interesting how that has all 'morphed' over the last 35 years or so :( :( :(
