Summertime Beverages
« on: April 13, 2013, 11:39:09 AM »

I'm SO ready for the temps to warm up and summer to get here.

A few weeks ago I had a delicious sangria at Red Lobster.  I think I found a recipe that is very close to it . . . I'm hoping anyway.

I'm already picturing myself basking in the sunshine with a crisp, sparkling beverage at my side.  I think this one will be a "go to" this summer:

BERRY SANGRIA
•   1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
•   1/2 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
•   1/2 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
•   1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
•   1/2 cup strawberries (sliced)
•   1 12 oz. bottle of ginger ale
•   1/2 cup sugar
•   2 oz. blackberry liqueur

Toss the wine, the berries, the blackberry liqueur and the sugar in a pitcher, cover and place in the refrigerator overnight.
Pour in a bottle of chilled ginger ale just prior to serving.
Add ice in either the pitcher or individual glasses.

Now, all I need is some warmer weather and sunshine.   :)

I'm addicted to, well come to think of it there are a lot of things, good fresh squeezed lemonade as a summer non alcoholic drink.  Still enjoy a good cold beer in the summer, and a good cold margarita.  Humm, lemonade and margaritas.....things that are tart!  I may be onto some of my other addictions here.

Sangria is a great summer beverage...But, 2 oz. of blackberry liqueur?   Should be a 1/2 pint of blackberry brandy...;)

I love the Sangria they serve at Dominick's in Ann Arbor...Cant leave the town without a pitcher of that and a pizza...

Liqueur or Brandy?  Hmmmm.  I'll just have to try both and report back.  :)

Lemonade is a staple here.  Lemon wedges are in the frig all the time for icewater too.  LOVE lemons!

As I hear snow/sleet hit my window (ugh), I'll think of these delicious summer drinks and imagine sunshine on my shoulders.

I was looking out the window watching it sleet and thinking of something tart too.

I've been drinking lots of banana smoothies lately . .....I take 3 ice cubes , 1 banana , 3 tbs of low fat vanilla yogurt and milk . Then I blend it in one of those " magic bullet " mixers .... They are so good that  Ive been drinking them all the time . Yummy :)

That sounds good, but I am not familiar with magic bullets in terms of a mixer.   ;D

I bet that is a filling drink too.

I had an idea of tea wine. I have some fermenting now. (I don't know if its an original idea) but, if I can get it right, it might be able to be chilled (iced) for summer and warmed for fall/winter.
