Bmxer,

Mr. Ingels answered it better than me. I have read all his posts on this forum. He has common sense and knows what he is talking about. Take his advice and do it up right. You never know. That is what America and freedom is all about.

Sorry Bullcans.

God Bless America!

Mike,

I took a look at your blog. Good idea. Thanks for looking out for the kid. That is what kids need, adults who will take them seriously. He also received a free civics lesson. Hopefully he remembers all this down the road. I am sure he will. We all have had adults look out for us at one time.

I think I now know who I can go to if I have a legitimate concern, again thanks Mike.

Bullcans,

Sorry. I am real protective of kids and veterans. I have worked with kids and on the other point, I have seen a lot of stuff.

I'd be happy with laws that permit biking around Monroe along sidewalks.

I agree 100%, the law baning bikes up town was ridiculous when I was a kid...And it causes more problems than it solves...!

As a parent I have to say I admire your cause, but I have to 100% disagree with it.  The skateparks were built for skateboarding, not BMX'ing.  The signs clearly say no bikes.  Now I am near the Dixie one quite often and I almost always see kids riding bikes in there.  Are you saying that the police or someone make you leave?  Not from what I have seen.  In fact, I have taken my boys down there and when they see the BMX'ers on the ramps, they won't go in.  They are usually older kids who are rude as heck to the younger skaters.  They don't want to get run over.   Please don't tell me that you and all your friends are completely courteous to the younger skaters because I have seen myself the older teens telling the younger kids to get the F out of the way.
If I were you, I would lobby for a designated bike day or time at the parks because I doubt you will get any support from anyone on allowing both in there.

I think a reasonable young man who posts for help on Monroe Talks is probably not the kind of guy who does this.  Let's cut him some slack.

That was totally uncalled-for!! You know absolutely nothing about this kid or his friends.  You remind me of one of those rotten teachers that we all had who would punish the entire class because of the actions of a few "bad apples".

angrybmxer6 is coming here asking for support from his community on a very valid issue and he certainly does not deserve  that type of response.

Anyone who believes skateboarders and bmx'ers can use a skate park at the same time without someone getting injured is not being realistic. That law is in place to keep kids safe, not to persecute bicyclists.

So make it a rule that the first half hour of every hour is for bicycles and the second half hour for skaters.

Who will enforce this rule?

Actually, a solution might be to have all users of the ramp parks to register with the city recreation program. On even days, skaters could use it and on odd days, BMXers. This will help with enforcement. They could also require a registration fee to recieve a card, $10.00 or something like that. This would help cover the cost of the card and also help (not a lot) with maintence fees. It is their park. It could also provide an oppurtunity for them (18+ and parent's of minor's) with a waiver form. Saying the city isn't responsible for accident's that occur. If the police drive by and see skater's AND BMXer's in there together, then they already know who's allowed and who isn't. The Rec dept can also help enforce this. It will also prevent (hopefully doesn't happen because parent's should know where their kids are) 8, 9 year olds from going to the park and getting injured. Since the parks are not accessible by all, the parent's should know their kids are there.

The ramp parks are great ideas, but not allowing those who ride bikes is just foolish. Just like the $85.00 riding your bike on the sidewalk ticket.

Let me 9 year old get a ticket for riding his bike on the sidewalk and force him to ride in the street. See what happens. He's not even allowed to cross the street by himself. Yes, he's riding his bike on the sidewalk.

I'd like to see a better representation for the young adults and kids. Monroe is a great place to raise kids. It's just not kid friendly.
