Here is more evidence that the White House punishes whistleblowers even as it permits flattering leaks.

Leon Panetta Revealed Top Secret Information About Bin Laden Raid

The transparency group Judicial Watch recently revealed documents showing that Leon Panetta, while serving as head of the CIA, revealed Top Secret information about the Bin Laden raid to Hollywood filmmaker Mark Boal.  The documents came from more than 200 pages of materials released to Judicial Watch by the CIA as the result of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

Among the documents was an internal review written by the CIA Office of Security (the internal investigative arm of the CIA), dated October 22, 2012 and entitled “Review of UBL Awards Ceremony Attendance” it noted in part:

The Agency’s Security policy and administrative procedures were not followed in allowing Mr. Boal, a member of the media, access to the classified Bin Ladin Operation Award Ceremony”

OS has no indication that attendees of the ceremony were aware than an uncleared visitor (Mr. Boal) was in attendance

The review conducted by OS leads to the conclusion that the failure to follow stipulations in ARs [redacted] resulted in the disclosure of classified information to a member of the media, without benefit of any documentation to reflect a waiver to the above policies.

At the awards ceremony, Panetta gave a speech, the entirety of which was classified as Top Secret.  More than 90 lines of the FOIA released transcript are redacted for security reasons, which according to Judicial Watch further confirms “that significant portions of the speech should not have been made in front of the filmmaker who lacked top security clearance.”

The Feds are not going after the leaker, Leon Panetta, but instead they are investigating who disclosed that leaker was Mr. Panetta.

WASHINGTON -- More than two years after sensitive information about the Osama bin Laden raid was disclosed to Hollywood filmmakers, Pentagon and CIA investigations haven’t publicly held anyone accountable despite internal findings that the leakers were former CIA Director Leon Panetta and the Defense Department’s top intelligence official.

Instead, the Pentagon Inspector General’s Office is working to root out who might have disclosed the findings on Panetta and Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Michael Vickers to a nonprofit watchdog group and to McClatchy.
