Good question...

What the report don't allude to is the structural soundness of the bridges...  The years of salt coupled with the heavy truck weights coupled with the cold...  I wonder how many bridges are at the end of their lifespan  Like the Rouge bridge last year....  Rusted away and ready to collapse.

This article notes that bridges received a 'C' but doesn't go into any detail:

One has to wonder after the Rouge bridge fiasco last year, just what lurks under the bridge deck...

  • Fish Lake Michigan!

I would think that the underdeck would be thoroughly inspected on a regular basis.....I could be wrong.

By whom?

MDOT has crews that inspect both the bridge decks and the support structure.  They've been working along Telegraph just in the last couple of weeks.

I think the road commission has staff that do the county and township bridges but somebody does it for sure because there are bridges that regularly get closed or the load reduced because they failed their 'inspection'.

Well you can't argue with their position that our roads have been in bad shape for a long time and that they're getting worse instead of better!  Obviously there will always be finger pointing as to who is at fault.  I think there's plenty of blame on both sides.

I think the Michigan Legislature should send one of these to every taxpayer in the state!

Some 'new' technology for pothole repair.

I wonder how many US based firms are working on technology to repair potholes?

Sounds like the machine does all the work. But big city labor agreements will still require a crew of at least 6 people.

Seems like I see or hear a politician every few days talking about all the 'extra' road repair funding they're 'giving' us...

but it looks like the taxpayers aren't buying it!!!

Here's an article that gives some background on how roads have been built and maintained in Michigan over the years.
