Nonessential personnel stay home and don't get paid.  Essential personnel work and don't get paid.  Eventually everyone goes back to work and gets paid.  Stupidest damn cycle ever.  As to not noticing nonessential personnel, MN might not notice but the armed services definitely notice.  Especially those in the field waiting for supplies which can't get inspected or shipped.  Nonessential is relative.

One of the first thing 'front line' troops will notice is that the NFL Playoff game will not be televised this afternoon.  I'm sure some people won't see an issue with this but if you're 'been there and done that' then you might appreciate it more!

CatLady,

People who need to get materials to the Military in the field ARE essential personnel.

86% of the Federal Government IS classified as essential - and the DOD functions are in that 86%.

Please don't tell people incorrect information to alarm them.

You are more honest than that - aren't you?

Yea, I seem to recall that was the case at the last shutdown.  DOJ was classified as essential, but Mrs. Fuzz threw in a kicker for this one that I don't recall.....furloughs (one for each administrative department) but she had not gotten that letter yet.

If that was the case in the last shutdown - it is because the Commander in Chief was working HARD to make sure that everyone felt the shutdown as much as possible - but he still found the resources to send people out to block public roads - including STATE ROUTES - that ran through parks.

It was Obama's pettiness and wanting to play politics that did things to impact the Military - even as they did his bidding.

Heck - under Obama the Military didn't even have the money to keep the Blue Angels and Thunderbird planes flying safely.

He always had money to make those ACA payments though!

I don't see Trump pulling the same garbage that Obama did.  He doesn't seem to hate this country like Obama did.

Bottom line....both of these inept parties have done it, and will do it again.  It is the unfortunate state of politics and the establishment that continue the madness.  I'd still like to see both parties dissolve and run either as a conservative or liberal that would hopefully bring about a third moderate party.

They just need to end the 60 vote rule to end debate in the Senate.

Harry Reid did it.  I believe old Mitch also did it.

That seems to be the source of most of the dysfunction, and the tool that whatever Party isn't in power uses to be the "Party of No."

I sincerely believe if you did away with that one tool to obstruct - then the two sides might have to behave like adults again.

I don't think changing the names of the parties would do squat.  People would still be afraid to "throw their votes away."

We now have what had been coined the 'Schumer Shutdown'.....  It's all come about because Chuck under estimated Trump.  Chuck (wrongly) assumed Trump would cave on immigration...  and he didn't.  Schumer is a tool. a swamp creature.

It said great deal about Obama when they blocked the Honor Flight WWII veteran group (85+ year old) from visiting their memorial.  Young veterans came in took down the barrycades and carried them to the WH.

I'm curious why someone thought Bedford - the area that only recently allowed Alcohol to be sold, would get on board with medical Marijuana

We don't need no stinking taxes!

.......that the media would disapprove 44% of married men, and 36% married women fit for the office of President.  That is the percentage of adulterers.
