Monroe Bank and Trust - automatic Fees?
« on: April 02, 2015, 10:31:22 AM »

Just received a letter from MBT telling me that they are "AUTOMATICALLY" switching my checking account to one that charges $5.95/mo to do things I can already do  >:(

Paying 71.40 a year for the privilege of collecting "interest" on your own money  8*
sounds like a scam to get more fee's out of people - under the guise of credit monitoring.

Not sure who the marketing genius was...
but when you want to offer a new service you should sell it - not automatically add it!

We received that letter yesterday.... Pissed me off!

Why do *I* have to go out of my way to tell them I don't want this?! That's crap!

I'd like to meet the idiot who thought it was a good idea to just add it to everyone's account.... They need a smack upside the head.

My account isn't broke, therefore it doesn't need fixing. I like it just the way it is.... SIMPLE.

Got my letter yesterday, and promptly called them and told I wanted to be on the basic no fee plan. No problem.

There is fine print on that letter that states you can opt for the basic no fee plan as nails did.

However....  Many of those "perks" listed in the new checking account were already included in the old free one.  The real question is how many of those perks are now NOT INCLUDED in your old free checking account plan.

When i called all she said was I won't get interest anymore.

The pittance they call interest they can keep.   I don't want to keep any more than I need in checking!

I feel sorry for the girl who had to take my phone call as apparently she'd been fielding these calls all day - and said "I'm sorry I don't make the policies"...  but couldn't tell me who did.

Sort of reminds me of Obamacare....  You can keep your plan if you want to..........(You can keep your account if you want to......)

We have to pass it so we can see whats in it.....................
(You need to read the fine print or you get screwed...........)

I wonder if MB&T Contracted with the Democratic Party to collaborate on this current abortion.

I checked the MB&T web site and it's called Smart checking and in order to get interest you have to:

Use your debit card at least 15 times per month and
Have one or more Direct Deposits or make two or more bill payments per month.

They also provide Identity theft protection.

The credit union tried to pull this same stunt about 8 months ago and everyone had to call in to stop it.

I don't even have a debt card.  Don't want one.  I do have a commercial account with MB&T because it's convenient location in P'burg.  Thats the only reason.

Considering the cost of the brochures they sent out, and the mailing expenses, they have quite a bit invested in this scam marketing campaign.  Most people will opt out of the "Smart Checking".

Bad idea.  I wonder who came up with this brainstorm?

I wonder if MB&T Contracted with the Democratic Party to collaborate on this current abortion.

Makes perfect sense!  Smoke and mirrors bullsiht!!!

The Mrs. and I have closed 2 accounts, and are in contact with the Credit Union.  30 years worth of banking, and I find myself no longer a fan.

I've done my banking at the Credit Union since we moved to town, no complaints!
