Yep that's what the guy did.  Kept getting plates with good stickers.  Occasionally he'd get stopped and cops would take the veh.  He'd either steal another or maybe buy one for couple hundred and get another plate.

I did not realize that Venezuela has had to resort to importing oil.

Today Venezuela, with the world’s largest oil reserves is, believe it or not, importing oil. It’s a perfect illustration of Nobel-winning economist Milton Friedman’s well known saying that if the Sahara took up socialism, there would soon be a shortage of sand.

Socialism has also led to massive shortages of food, toilet paper, diapers and medicine, among many other things, all the result of state planning and currency controls and rampant inflation. After 18 years of socialist spending, inflation has hit 720%, the IMF says. And don’t forget that Venezuela also has the world’s highest crime rate, with Caracas rated the world’s most dangerous city by the Citizens’ Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice.

Socialist Venezuela is on the verge of a massive Argentina-sized sovereign debt default, with $10 billion in debt payments due this year, and only $8 billion left to buy imports such as food, according to an appalling analysis in the Financial Times by Ricardo Hausmann. Meanwhile, Venezuela ranks No. 1 in the world on economist Steve Hanke’s Cato Institute “Misery Index” which is his measure of each nations’ combined inflation, unemployment and interest rates. Friday, Reuters reported that Venezuela was were desperately trying to swap out their gold reserves with German banks to survive a little longer. No surprise, investment banks say they’re looking at an 80% chance of a default. Blogger Miguel Octavio of The Devil’s Excrement reported this week that the Caracas airport was full of weeping families sending their young people into exile abroad.

That’s the part of socialism Bernie Sanders doesn’t want to talk about. It’s the same wherever it’s tried. Voters fall for it over and over, and all it brings is failure. Sanders is only continuing the con. When is he going to be called on it?

Venezuela has more oil than any other country on the planet.

But it just bought a bunch of American crude.

A ship carrying half a million barrels of oil that was pumped in the U.S. docked at a terminal owned by Venezuela last week, according to oil data research firm ClipperData. The shipment was sent to a facility located on the Dutch island of Curacao in the Caribbean.

The fact that Venezuela is importing American oil is raising eyebrows because Venezuela has 298 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, according to the Energy Information Administration. That's more than Saudi Arabia, Russia or Iran and eight times the reserves of the United States.

But the oil extracted in Venezuela is very heavy and hard to refine and then sell to other countries. Venezuela needs to first mix its heavy oil with lighter types of crude to balance out the quality, according to Nilofar Saidi, an oil market analyst at ClipperData.

Saidi said Venezuela had already been importing lighter types of crude oil from Russia, Angola and Nigeria.

"It's just cheaper to bring a tanker of light crude from the U.S. Gulf than to ship it from West Africa or North Africa," says Nilofar Saidi, an oil market analyst at ClipperData.

I guess disabling the report to admin link only on the lib side was indicative of the slanted games they play.

This is the only way to answer some of the questions posed:

1) I did nothing to warrant the banishment, it's political.

2) It's the router that's blocked but considering all the nonsense right-wing games being played by those running the site...it's just not worth it to bypass the banishment block.

History is clear that Soviet-style central planning removes the incentive to innovate and reduces the standard of living.

Capitalism vs. socialism in one chart: South Korea vs. Venezuela edition

If you are trying to make a point about statism vs. democratic capitalism, comparing the fortunes of North and South Korea is an easy and effective way to make it. A great natural experiment. (Just compare night-time satellite photos of the Korean peninsula.) One a modern, advanced economy. The other a hellhole. Same people, same geography, different political economy.

So how about this comparison instead? South Korea vs. Venezuela. Certainly the latter isn’t Switzerland. Freedom House calls Venezuela a “partly free” nation that oppress political opposition. But FH labels North Korea as “unfree” and uses the phrase “crimes against humanity” in the opening paragraph of its report.

The Index of Economic Freedom ranks Venezuela #176 out of the  178 nations it tracks, ahead of Cuba and North Korea. But Venezuela is a much richer nation, with a per capita GDP (on a purchasing power basis) of $18,000 vs. $2,000 for North Korea.

Venezuela’s Falling Apart and the President Is Sending Troops to ‘Protect’ the People

https://news.vice.com/article/venezuelas-falling-apart-and-the-president-is-sending-troops-to-protect-the-people

A week ago residents of the poorer barrios of Venezuela's capital Caracas woke up to find soldiers everywhere.

Dressed in black helmets, military fatigues, and bulletproof jackets, a fleet of soldiers on 400 motorcycles flew through narrow, crumbling, streets while being supported by trucks and two helicopters. They set up street checkpoints and positioned themselves on rooftops to monitor the neighborhoods, while officers scoured alleys and houses holding heavy weaponry.

The military deployment took place in the midst of Venezuela's massive economic crisis triggered by the fall of oil prices and characterized by a shrinking economy and hyperinflation. Blackouts are now constant, in many areas water is severely rationed, and public sector employees work just two days a week in an effort to save energy.

Patients are dying in hospitals for lack of basic care, desperate families are buying bootleg medication at inflated prices, and standing in huge lines is required to buy basic goods such as toilet paper, condoms, and rice.

I didn't know rubbers were a basic commodity in any society....  Seems like a luxury to me.  Maybe the citizens of Venezuela need to quit screwing around and get with the program....

Far as Hugo, he might be dead but Valero lives on, funneling wealth to the family.

It is a nice cake and it's typical of a dictatorship.  In the pictures, it looks as though the frosting is melting a bit.  Maybe they should check the ac.

Nothing will change there so long as the regime maintains power.  Similar to Cuba but at least Raul Castro has some sense of decency.

They have more oil than they know what to do with and are still impoverished...  amazing.

I thought the socialists would follow Bernie's plan and start by seizing the deodorant plants first.
