Reputable Local Financial Planning Advisor?
« on: September 11, 2015, 08:08:25 PM »

This acquisition of my old company is becoming way more complicated than I care to deal with let alone understand all of the options.

Looking for a local FPA to assist and administer.

Any suggestions based on first or second hand knowledge?

I swear that only a CPA can digest the mass of information, statements, and documents that have come my way in the last week or so.

Wow.....what questions does an individual even ask or know if you are getting a good deal on their services or not.

Just googled for results in Monroe.......46 listings, now, what does one base the selection process on?  LOL  Word of mouth, years experience, compensation options; I hate to make this decision how I normally would and just catch a good buzz at take a stoner guess.

Honestly, I would stay clear of just a CPA. You were correct when you mentioned a FPA. Sounds like that is what you need. I don't know of any good CPA's in Monroe, so maybe that's why I said what I did.

Call Rich Paul in Novi.

Personal experience, no. Second hand, yes.

He's also on WJR now and then. Knows his stuff.

Can't hurt to talk to him.

Thanks Cowboy, I got the running list started on this tread.  Yea, no CPA......I think Mrs. Fuzz is one of them and I see how she likes to spend money.  LOL

For 2016, all official U.S. economic forecasts call for stronger growth ahead. But, economic output is not the only variable on the rise. Inflation, debt levels, interest rates, and market valuations are also increasing. What does this mean for stock investors like me for 2016 watching the US economic forecast here.

If you're still looking, from everything I've read, the best designation is CFP { Certified Financial Planner }.

CFP is pretty rigorous training. Fee only. No sales pressure or commission selling. Paid advise only.

A few in Ann Arbor/Detroit area.
One in Sylvania is Jim McMahon. He's a CFP with an MBA. Pretty reasonable cost.
I don't use him, but almost did. Here's his website.

Thanks nails.......I am still going through the separation of my old plan from my old employer, and to the new one.  They did keep the same administrator......just the stock input is different beings that it is a privately held company.

I cherished my 25 years with the old company, and this transition of being bought out has not been an easy pill for me to swallow.  Different processes, different procedures,,,,,,,I got real accustomed to knowing the highest levels of management so being the guy who goes in and fixes a mess always takes a money.  The banker changing is new to me.   ;D

My wife's union provides a very good consultant at no charge that doesn't do any selling whatsoever.

I handle our real estate investments myself...

Stock management is split up...

The guy that has done the best is actually in Florida (with the internet they can be anywhere today) and he is an AAMS.

No one local for me.  My financial planners are in Valley City, Ohio and I've done exceptionally well with them.  When I severed ties with my employer and took out all my money (401, company stock and pension funds) and turned it all over to my firm in Valley City, Ohio, I never lost a penny through the economic downturn while most perople lost their arses (ar at least a portion of it....lol).

They have always done well for me, in fact, after almost a decade of monthly withdrawls (up to receiving Social Security), I still have a substantial balance left (thats growing each month). (Mad / hunt money)....

My CPA sits on their board of directors btw.

In fact, when CL retired she too invested her retirement with them.  Good folks.

Best financial decision I ever made.
