Have you ever had unexpected or unexplained issues with your gas furnace or gas water heater?

Where your cat litter box is located may be part of the issue!!!

This is a cat article I'm writing!

I've had the best time getting re-acquainted with one of our very old (15+ years) cats our daughter brought down here last summer when she was home to visit.  When she (spayed) was home we would let her in and out as she wanted.  Sometimes we wouldn't see her for several days in a row and a few times we wondered if a hawk or a coyote had maybe gotten her.  But, just like old faithful she always came home!

She got out one time down here and was gone a couple of days.  Our daughter was pretty concerned but eventually she must have gotten tired of eating lizards (the cat, not the daughter) and came home...   along with about 500 fleas...

had to take her to the vet to get rid of them!!!!

She is the most cautious and patient critter I believe I've ever seen which is probably how she's lived a good long life.  One of our neighbors had one of the kittens from before her and that big boy lived to over 20.

She was even a little slow to warm up to me.  My wife had been here to visit a few times since she'd been down here so she warmed up to her quicker.  The last couple of nights I've caught her on the foot of the bed during the night.  She always did have to make her rounds to make sure everyone was ok while she was on watch.

We have a cat that looks quite a bit like this although she's a little heavier...

but this is definitely her attitude about her food!!!

It's said cats are independent but we have a marmalade tiger :Marne' is her name and she's my cat.  She is only affectionate with me.  She beats on the other cats and ignores everyone else.

She learned to drink from the bathtub faucet (by watching another cat we had,) and now she waits patiently for me to turn the faucet to a drip so she can drink, pawing the tub the whole time.  Her tail twitches when she sees me (which is a sign of a cat whizzing) but she never whizzes, just twitches...

Interesting cat.

She's a bit chunky too.  Likes to eat.

A couple of weeks ago our youngest dragged home another critter...

a black kitten!

He hit it right off with the big red dog and they got to be buddies before she left us.  Our daughter was trying to figure out a name and finally picked Onyx since we'd never had a critter with that name.  My wife was quick to break her bubble when my wife told our daughter that my wife had once had a black angus bull named Onyx that had died quite young.  Hoping the cat does better than the bull.

I found this song about black cats:

If you have a cat try this experiment...
http://www.mnn.com/family/pets/stories/cat-square-trick
make a square out of tape on your floor somewhere and then sit patiently and wait to see if your cat will make it's way to the 'security' of the box.  I'll try this when we get home with our cat there.  All we have here is a kitten and he's to wild to sit anywhere for very long.  We did have a cat that I know for sure would have been in 'the box' before you were even finished putting it down on the floor.

We've had a lot of cats over the years and I can't remember a single one that we could have done this with.  I'm guessing someone is standing behind the camera with their hand up in the air.

My wife asked why the bird didn't just fly?
