On our 'road trip' Tuesday we spent some time in Morenci looking at and for some more 'rail' history.
Morenci did have a link on the interurban that connected it to Toledo and thereafter 'the world'!
It also had a stop on the Canada Southern although that line ended just a few miles away in Ohio...
well short of their target destination of Chicago!
The Chicago Southern is the same railroad that ran on the north side of Deerfield and Petersburg and across the road from Flip's.
The old interurban station is in pretty good condition and still in it's original location. The freight station for the CS line has been moved to the same location as the interurban station. The freight station has had a coat of red 'barn' paint but it's still a bit rough and sitting up on blocks.
I'm going to have to make another trip back for more research but I think I now know where the freight station was originally. We were able to somewhat follow the former rail line 'cross country' on our way home.
