What is it?
« on: March 01, 2016, 12:16:25 PM »

Sorry Fuzz...

couldn't find any photos (that I dared post anyway) so we'll try something different.

We'll try something more for the 'engineer' types!!!

My wife found this in our daughter's stuff a few days ago as she was packing it up to take to her in Florida.

At first I thought it was a tension lever from inside an electrical circuit breaker but I can't see anyplace where anything has been rubbing.  It's quite rigid and doesn't flex like it seems it would for a  tension spring though.

The battery is just there for size reference.

Any ideas?

The issue here is even if someone gets it right I don't know if that's right or not...

or maybe it will jog my memory and I'll recognize it then.  I'm pretty sure it's something of mine as I remember seeing it before.  I'm guessing the cat was playing with it and that's the reason it was in her room.

Can't imagine it would be much of a handle if the object projected even slightly beyond the plane of the "hinge point"...I mean I doubt it would leave enough room for the average finger to grasp. Note the tapered end compared to the blunt end. Not sure of the significance of that observation...just thought I'd bring it up. The bottom-line...I'm stumped.

The blunt end probably goes first into a hole on a bracket, and the other end goes into a bracket too but has to be bent ever so slightly to get the tapered end through hole.

Stumped here as well.

It's possible one end goes in a hole in a projection and the other end snaps in a slot...say like a plastic piece.

Still not sure why one end is tapered though.

All good possibilities...

nails may be onto something.  The mini blinds in there have been the victim of both cats and dogs over the years to the point of literally being ripped clear down at least once.

I'm going and look up some general blind parts breakdowns.

But don't stop 'thinking' ;) ;) ;)

It's the handle from a left handed bacon stretcher. Used them all the time in the Navy. It was the best way to stretch your grocery dollar.  :D

I didn't find anything online for a matching part in any mini blinds but I'm sure they're not all the same either.  I do recall seeing this part before...   whatever it is :-\ :-\ :-\

Any new thoughts on this?

I'm still not 100% sure on the thought it's from some blinds...   just that a few sets of blinds have been broken in that same area.  I did send the picture to our daughter and she has no idea in the world.  She's pretty sure it isn't anything of hers.
