Personal details of nearly 200 million US citizens exposed
« on: June 19, 2017, 09:35:02 PM »

I'm not posting this in politics although I won't be surprised that it will get political soon enough anyway...

I'm not seeing this on any of the US news outlets but trust it to the BBC to 'break' the story!

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-40331215

I'm not particularly upset that they probably have my data in their database...   sounds like they acquired it legally and properly but it does bother me that they apparently went to zero effort to safeguard the information.  I'm sure Google and several others have just as much or more info on all of us...   but so far they seem to be keeping it under lock and key!

Just makes you wonder who will be the next to 'spill' the info!?

That's the problem with all this "cloud" stuff...

I have no faith in it and store nothing of value in it...  besides the fact that once you lose your password it will be gone anyway!  My  iCloud is basically for pictures and my contact list so I don't have to retype everyones name and phone number.   Pictures is pretty much wasted as I've never figured out how to download them to a disk.

As far as people collecting or mining data - it's been a goal for advertising for years so they can tailor to your tastes  it seems this was a political one in nature.

I have no issues either, unless I would get called into a Senate hearing and have to explain why I find humor in donkeys and midgets going at it.

Has anyone had any potential fallout they can potentially trace back to this breach?

The way I understand it, the only way anyone could get your data was if you questioned something with them via e-mail, I never did and I've seen nothing unusual at all.

Same here...   reviewing it daily!  My wife always was pretty good about keeping our checking and savings balanced on a day to day basis but now we're watching credit card accounts too.

I hadn't read that but we didn't contact them and haven't had any issues...   so :-\ :-\ :-\

I'm waiting for "Life Lock" to be hacked.

I looked into it several years ago, and they wanted your SS number, all your bank account numbers, and passwords to the bank, I believe. All your credit card numbers. Said they need all the info to check stuff.

I decided I didn't want to open that can of worms.
Can you imagine if they get hacked and the hackers get all your account numbers
along with your SS #, etc.

Maybe it's different now, but I thought that was too much info in one place.
They'll be hacked someday.
