It is a good thing to have art and culture and roads and busses and defense and and and and and and and and and and and and and and....

It is even better when the users pay a greater share than taxpayers to support non-infrastructure items such as arts, culture and and and and and and and and and and and and...

When you have more than you do now, you may be less willing to let your neighbor take some of it by means of taxation.

Of course if you want to write a check and send it along, be my guest. That would be awesome.

peace,
Griff

You're right, we don't need libraries either. People can just buy books at Borders if they want to read so badly.

We could save millions!

Yes, because what's the use of having a cool, science-oriented museum for thousands of kids to get inspired by, when you can save 15 bucks a year on taxes?

I mean, the nerve of these kids, wanting somewhere to learn about science in a fun way! They should learn it the way I did, in a stark-white classroom, in a textbook written by a robot, with no talking! AND WE LIKED IT!

And who needs art museums anyway? Pish posh, pure rubbish. Charcoal on cave walls are good enough for me.

The same can be said for numerous programs. the problem remains,
MONEY

Somehow I don't believe you truly agree with my point...

The voters in that jurisdiction had a funding levy up for renewal. They discussed the pro's and con's and voted. Of those that voted, the majority was against the measure. Their reasons were likely as varied as the voter population.

If you want support for a funding measure in your jurisdiction-- go for it. Be as persuasive possible.

Your future as an elected representative in our Constitutional Republic is in your hands.

Thats true, and im sure that all the people that are her complaining did not get up off their check book and write a check when they heard it was closing.  It was not a big secret they the place was going to close, and I never saw once about any fund raisers being held or anything like that.

People are currently of the mindset that any tax increase, for ANYTHING, is the worst thing ever.

If this trend continues, in 20 years we don't have a government, any public services, any schools, or any libraries, because, God forbid, they cost money to run.

How's Jefferson Schools doing? Well, I hope. How'd that millage turn out? I hear they couldn't run busses and cut the music and art programs entirely.

But hey, that extra 3 dollars per year can get you a nice Starbucks coffee.

Well Jefferson still has busing for k-6th grade.  Also I am pretty sure that they still have a music program.

I believe that if we were all paid in cash and the IRS stood at the employee entrance of our work waiting for each of us to stop and pay them (out of our cash pay-packet) all the FICA, MedI, Social Security etc. taxes due--we would experience a tax revolution in this country.

Lordfly, the desire of the taxpayer to make the tax collector live within the finite resources provided is a major reason you are seeing the tax revulsion you described.

Confiscatory taxing and deficit spending are not in anyone's best interest. As a future elected representative, I ask that you pay attention to sound fiscal policies that would lift the elctorate's desire to support the government. At one time, we as a government lived within our means, saved for a rainy day and avoided government debt as if our very lives depended upon it.

Griff

It’s a shame this topic has evolved into another political debate but I’d rather our politicians maintain their independence rather than pander to the vocal minority.

I’ve read everything lordfy has posted on MT and I believe he has the right mindset to do a good job.

Living within ones means goes without saying but that doesn’t mean ending social programs because the Republicans foolishly squandered our money.

We just have to eliminate the breaks that Bush has handed out and increase taxes to help make up the shortfall.

Listening to the continual harping of unfair taxation would make one believe it’s the primary issue facing us today but in reality there are issues of greater importance that deserve discussion far more frequently.

Even lordfly hasn't read everything he has posted on MT.  ;)

If it goes without saying, then explain the current deficit spending practices and indebtedness of our government.

We just have to eliminate the breaks that Bush has handed out and increase taxes to help make up the shortfall.

OK let's increase taxes--starting with you.

Listening to the continual harping of unfair taxation would make one believe it’s the primary issue facing us today but in reality there are issues of greater importance that deserve discussion far more frequently.

So you really won't mind paying more?

I’d start by increasing the taxes of the recipients of the breaks that Bush gave…..businesses and the rich but I wouldn’t mind paying more to improve society.

The long range payoff of universal health-care will be worth it.

So Griff……..You think taxation is the most important discussion we could be having?

No,

Taxation is not the most important topic .

I believe that the discussion of expenditures is the most discussion we could undertake.

However, with proposals such as the Universal Healthcare plan that you keep raising (with out even the slightest hint of how to pay for the proposal); I am forced to return to restricting the revenue.
