Elvis

Thursday marks the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.
What are Elvis fans doing to observe the day? Do you remember where you were when you heard the news of his death?
Why is he just as popular today as he was 30 years ago?

Yes, I remember where I was when I heard that Elvis had died.

I was 10 years old. I was playing in the basement at my parents' house with my younger nieces and nephew. We were dancing to music on the radio, WVMO. The announcer came on and said Elvis had died. We were all in shock. Elvis was to my family like the Pope or the President is to other folks. We ran upstairs and told my Mom. It was a sad day. One of my older sisters--the biggest fan in our family--cried in her room for a week, at least.

OMG, THAT WAS 30 YEARS AGO!! ?? !! Ok, now today is a sad day, too!!

I was only 3 months old at the time, and I totally don't remember where I was, LOL.  I am guessing I was chilling with my Mom at home.  But, *Elvis* did walk me down the aisle on 12-12-01 in Las Vegas, so he will always have a special place in my heart.....

Because he is the most physically beautiful man ever to grace the planet! Especially in that black leather outfit he wore for his sixties "comeback" concert. Only Paul Newman comes close to his beauty, IMO.

That and, well, he sings nice, too!  :D

I was working in the Menswear department at Kmart here in town.   I heard the bookkeeper was weeping and I asked her why.   She told me Elvis Presley had passed.

It truly was a sad time.

I don't remember where I was when he died but I remember his live broadcast from Hawaii.  I was in a hospital bed at 8 years old after having my tonsils out.  Back then, they used to keep you overnight and all the nurses were 'ga-ga' over the show.

I remember where I was. I was at my mother-in-laws house.

He is still popular because there has never been another quite like him.  He was ahead of his time.

Somebody on another topic said Dean Martin was the hottest man ever. I vote for a young Elvis. He is adorable in that Army picture and I also love him in the 1968 black leather outfit.

Hi, jenjen, that was me. Allow me to 'splain.... Elvis was beautiful, like a Greek god--with his straight, sculpted nose, his high cheekbones, his full lips, and those gorgeous hang-dog eyes. Paul Newman has similar classically beautiful features. I think they have the Divine Proportion. (http://goldennumber.net/face.htm

And so did Deano to a degree. But something about Dean was...well...just smokin' HOT!! LOL!! He was elegant and urbane and funny. He defined the playboy image. And that buttery voice.... Mmm.

Nowdays, though, it's gotta be George Clooney. I always tell my S.O. that if George ever comes to town and falls madly in love with me, I am gone. Buh-bye!!   :D

Elvis  what can you say?  He's dead.  Don't care much for him.  My mother and my husband think he is the best thing since sliced bread.  I don't see why there is the hoopla there is for this man.  Please somebody explain it to me before I have to go see another impersonator.
