Lowes closing?
« on: February 22, 2008, 08:41:24 PM »

Probably just another rumor but I heard from several people that Lowes is going to close their Telegraph store?

Uh, why would they? They're annihilating local businesses around here, and the place always has people in it.

Good....hopefully Home Depot will come in and take their place. I'm not a big fan of Lowes, it is like a "girlyfied" Home Depot.

Oh, I have to agree with you LadyA!  I MUCH prefer Home Depot.  Every time I go into Lowes with a list of things I need, they might have half of it.   >:(

I go to Home Depot, and they have everything, at a cheaper price.  I can buy wire at HD for less than any wholesale supply house in the area!

I don't think that Lowes has NEARLY enough traffic to support the overhead.  I don't know when you've been there, Lordfly, but when I go there, the place is deserted. All I see is a bunch of employees wandering around, looking for something to do.

Well I'm glad it is not just me. I can NEVER get everything I need to complete a project. (and not to mention their prices....  >:( ) Everytime we go in there, we leave disgusted! For me, I just hate driving all the way to Woodhaven, so I try and make due with their pitiful inventory. So yea.....BRING ON HOME DEPOT!

I've always preferred the Home Depot to Lowe's but lately the prices have been identical....right to the penny.

That is a bummer. It has been a while since I have been to HD, so I haven't done any price comparisons as of lately. So did HD increase their prices, or did Lowes lower theirs?

There may be "something" to the rumor of Lowes in Monroe closing.

If you go to Alexis road in Toledo (which is within 1 mile of Monroe county) there is both a Home Depot and a Lowes across the street from each other at Lewis Avenue....

and they are just about finished building a new Menards store just west of I-75 across from Meijer...     ( http://www.menards.com/ )

We have gone to their store down in Holland OH a few times and it seems much nicer than either Lowes or HD...    haven't been there enough to compare prices though ;D ;D ;D

At any rate, I'm not sure how many "Home Improvement" stores this area can support...

Customer service at Home Depot is horrible and the company is terribly mismanaged. After buying a new house and purchasing all of my product at Lowes, I have had no complaints.

I've always preferred the Home Depot to Lowe's but lately the prices have been identical....right to the penny.

Maybe in some items, but not all.

Number 12 AWG THHN in almost any color is $60.00 at Lowes, and $50.00 at Home Depot.  Same exact item, $10.00 difference, for a 500 foot roll.  This same item at most electrical supply houses sells for $62.00 to $65.00.   I buy 30-40 of these a year - so it adds up!

Home Depot is definitely geared more for selling to contractors - their packaging of various items (receptecles, switches, conduit fittings, breakers, etc.) is in quantity boxes, and is often cheaper than any 'wholesale' supply house).  Also, 14/2 and 12/2 romex is much cheaper at HD.  And it's even better if I get a 10% off coupon in the mail!!!   ;D ;D

I do agree that customer service at HD sucks though.  I know more about there inventory than most of their employees do anyway, so I never need their help.

Menards in Dundee??

SWEET!!!

Didn't Toyota have a pretty respectable showing at Dayton?  I think the will get the checkered flag several times this season.

That's great now that they have single handedly put two of our local hardware stores out of business.  *:)
