ANAHEIM - While the Academy Awards were taking place just down the road, the Blackhawks were trying to pull off a little drama of their own Sunday night at the Honda Center.
Instead, they played too much like statues early on as the Anaheim Ducks scored the first three goals and went on to a 6-3 victory that snapped the Hawks' two-game winning streak.
"We have to want to challenge ourselves a little bit more against teams like that," said rookie Jonathan Toews, who assisted on all three Hawks goals. "We have to get more excited about playing against big and strong and skilled teams like Anaheim. We didn't step up to the challenge."
The defending Stanley Cup champions got three goals and two assists from Teemu Selanne, playing in his 10th game after sitting out much of the season, while Chris Kunitz added a goal and three assists and Ryan Getzlaf a goal and two assists. Selanne overtook Maurice Richard for 25th place on the career goal list with 546.
