Volleyball coaches at Monroe High
« on: March 04, 2008, 11:01:58 AM »

I've experienced some very negative situations involving the VB program at MHS, some of my friends stated they would not go through it again next year.  Has anyone else been subject to this treatment over the last few years?  I can't believe this is an isolated situation involving a few girls.

Like what?

being degraded and picked on by the coach, one girl last year was forced to to do a drill that re injured an ankle, when she had a doctors note to avoid that particular motion.  We had a girl this year injure her knee and the coaches sat there and watched her lay on the ground for well over 8 minutes, and made us finish the punishment drill we were doing before they attended to her.  I could go on for hours about the treatment we have received.

Has this been reported to the athletic director? And also there are some situations where it is not wrong to question authority. What I mean is if someone has a sports injury it would be okay to respectfully decline to participate in a drill that could make the injury worse. That's to bad there is nothing wrong with being competitive but it's also suppoused to be fun. Doesn't sound like that is the case with your team. I'll tell you this I recently had my knee repaired from a sports injury and there is no way I would risk further damage to drill at practice, I couldn't believe the # of High school kids in therapy for ACL's.

my one friend said that people have complained to the AD but nothing was done, they had also asked the Board of Education to do something about the situation but same result, nothing!  It doesn't look very promissing for the future of MHS Volleyball.

I'd like to say I was surprised by that, but I'm not. Have parents gotten involved? I can't believe the school board would just ignore this if enough people came forward. It's truly sad that kids can't have an enjoyable time playing a high school sport.

We wrote letters about what we had experienced, even some of the parents wrote letters about the emotional state the girls would come home from practice in.  I even think these were sent to the state board of education, but still nothing has happened.  Maybee in time enough people will be so upset about the situation things will have to change!

I heard from parents involved with the wresting program @MHS that the AD has no clue as to how to run an athletic program.  A committee of parents had a meeting with the AD and voiced concerns about the wrestling coach, and he brushed them off.  They were told he (the coach) was the most organized coach he had (the AD) had ever seen.  WTF?????  Not how good a coach he was, it was how organized he was.  So, I guess that even though the parents DO go to the AD, it does not do any good.  Always remember the GOOD OLE BOY SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!

Who is the current AD, the school should be held accountable for whoever is running their sports teams. If what these volleyball players claims are true a replacement should be found, the school board should at least be investigating these claims.

We call him D-Ray (doctor john ray)  it seems that he has two many issues to deal with so he pretends that nothing is wrong, and the school board acts like this isn't important enough to deal with.  At least thats the way it appears to me!

Are these sports pay to play at MHS or are they funded by the tax payers?
