Are there really any legit work from home jobs?
« on: April 22, 2008, 04:55:41 PM »

I really want to stay at home with my daughter, but work from home.

I don't want to "sell" stuff that is commission based because I'm not a "sales" person. I do want something where I get paid hourly and know I am making actual money I can count on. Half the one's I look into look pretty much on the "scam" side of things and I was wondering if anyone worked for a company from home or knows of one.

You could make money in Second Life, but you'd need to know Photoshop and work at it as much as a full-time job (your'e basically in business for yourself, it's a lot of work)

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

You can call any doctors office and ask for the office manager. Most doctors dictate their notes and send them off to have typed up. We had this done in our medical office I used to work at.  The girls would come in and pick up the doctors tapes and type all their letters notes and documentation and get paid big bucks from doing this at home.

This site was linked off to an article I just got in a newsletter about home-based businesses. Very interesting:

Here's the article where I got the link: Five ways to wreck a home-based business.

That sounds great!   :D

Do you have a link?  *:)

I would love to find a stay at home job.  None of my current work pays $$$.

Raven:  About a month or so ago Good Morning America did a segment on this topic.  There apparently are some legitimate work at home jobs that pay a decent wage.  The information was posted on the GMA website - I don't know if it's still there, but it's worth a try.  Some of the jobs were customer service reps for credit card companies and so forth.  Good luck & hope the info is still there for you.

There is a tremendous amount of supply for work at home labor, that far exceeds the demand. As a result the pay tends to be quite low.

I  have checked out a lot of those work at home promotions and have found that all of them are scams. If they offer a large amount of money, beware. Some want you to pay $49.99 to receive their information first. I did this once, and found that their "booklet" was full of further scams.

Contacting doctors offices' and transcribing their work is a lot harder than one would think. AND, the pay is NOT that good. The only thing close to working at home and making any money is daycare, but you have to like kids, deal with lousy parents, and expect not to be paid very much. But hey! That's the exchange for being home with your child. Good luck. If you find something, let us all know.
