THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
« on: April 06, 2008, 07:52:34 AM »

Two Different Versions!  Two Different Morals!
OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green'.

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, 'We shall overcome'. Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

Nancy Pelosi & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of t he summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients.

The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

OMG

If that isn't offensive to just about everyone!
:D

I think you left honeybees out of the equation!

What do you mean by be careful how you vote?
Careful who you vote for?
Are you recommending not voting?
Voting for Ron Paul? What is the point in that? Sending a message that will fall on deaf ears?

You mean like it did when Bill Clinton was elected?

Exactly.
Look what his NAFTA did for our jobs.
Exactly what Perot said would happen...they went south of the border.
Perot also said illegal immigration would increase w/ NAFTA...he was correct again.
The bill to implement NAFTA passed in the House with a majority of Repubicans voting
"aye" 132, and a majority of Democrats voting "no" 156.
Note Monroe's Dingell voted "no".
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/1993/roll575.xml
The Senate passed the bill with 61 "yeas" to 38 "nays".
Both Michigan Senators, Levin & Reigle (Democrats) voted "nay".
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=103&session=1&vote=00395
The bill was sponsered by Rep. Dan Rostenkowski, a Democrat from Illinois who pleaded guilty to mail fraud charges in 1996. President Clinton pardoned him with 2 months left to go on a 17 month sentence. The bill was also cosponsered by Rep. Bill Archer, a Republican from Texas with a long and distinguished career in politics (he was once a Democrat). Rep. Archer was also instrumental in awarding China most favored nation trade status in 1999. President Clinton also supported MFN for China.
So there you have it.
I'm sure there is more to add! lol

Good post.
It is a nut shell version of what Thomas Sowell said in "The Vision of the Anointed". When big government advocates take over the government everybody gets hosed except the politicians, bureaucrats and the people who pay off the politicians.

We wouldn't need big government if we didn't have such big trouble with big business.

Big government creates trouble with all business.

If we actually applied the Constitution there would be no big government, but we can't let that damn piece of paper get in the way of the government.
Just ask Bush.

I have more faith in government than I do in big business, but that's not saying much.

Think I'm going to go read The Constitution. It's been a while.

If I remember correctly it does set out the specifics for each branch of our government.
Last I checked it didn't give the economically elite the right to rule America.

Is everyone against you?  Do you think everyone is trying to keep you down?  Are you a victim every where you turn?  Is there a conspiracy theory right around the corner?  Will your government save you?  Or, would you rather save yourself?

I hope government does start enforcing the law and quits handing out corporate welfare and bailouts.
I don't need "saving", this country does.
Go soak your head and quit pestering me.

As far as political dynastys...ya? So?
Are they the world's richest men?

Thank God DeVos didn't win Michigan.

so Devos didn't win Michigan.  That means you're happy being unemployed and the state losing thousands of jobs, leading the country in unemployment, recession, and foreclosures?  I'm not saying he was the answer, but Jenny sure hasn't performed well.  Maybe you'll be happier with the next tax increase that will pull us out of this mess.
